The Giants <\/a>and star Dexter Lawrence<\/strong><\/a> have reached an impasse on a contract extension and the team continues to search for a trade partner for the defensive tackle, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Lawrence requested a trade on April 6<\/a> after failing to reach an agreement on a long-term deal the past two offseasons. The two-time All-Pro also said he won’t participate in the team’s offseason program that began last week.<\/p>\n

New York is looking to find a resolution before the NFL Draft next week, Rapoport notes, with the first round kicking off on Thursday, April 23, in Pittsburgh.<\/p>\n

SNY NFL Insider Connor Hughes reported on April 7<\/a> that there are many teams interested in making a trade for the three-time Pro Bowler.<\/p>\n

As for what Big Blue could get in return for Lawrence, Hughes said, “The most common expected return value: a late 2026 first-round pick, a 2027 first-round pick, or a second-and fifth-round pick.”<\/p>\n

Speaking with reporters on Tuesday as part of the pre-draft process, Giants GM Joe Schoen<\/strong> said he’d like Lawrence to be a part of the team in 2026 and is looking to resolve the matter.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve had good conversations with his representatives throughout the last five-six days. Coach [John Harbaugh<\/strong>], Dawn [Aponte],<\/strong> myself, we\u2019ve all been in communication trying to find some resolution,\u201d Schoen said<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019ll echo what coach said last week, we\u2019d like for Dexter to be here and at some point we\u2019ll come to a resolution here, whatever that may be, we\u2019ll see, but conversations have been really good. They\u2019ve been productive, and again, we\u2019ll see what happens more down the road, but I\u2019m not going to say any more about it after that. That\u2019s the update and that\u2019s really all there is.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lawrence is currently signed to a four-year, $87 million deal with New York that runs through the 2027 season. He carries a $26.95 million salary cap hit for the 2026 season and a $26.45 million cap hit for 2027.<\/p>\n
