Billy Crystal recalled the final conversation he had with Rob Reiner before the latter was fatally stabbed in his Los Angeles home<\/a> last December.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had spent the night before together and [were] talking about our careers together,\u201d the comedian said on\u00a0\u201cThe Late Show With Stephen Colbert\u201d<\/a> Tuesday. <\/p>\n

\u201cI met him when I was a guest on \u2018All in the Family,\u2019 playing his best friend in 1975 \u2014 it was a good year for me. \u2026 And we\u2019ve just kept it going all of these years,\u201d Crystal remembered.<\/p>\n

The \u201cWhen Harry Met Sally\u2026\u201d star recalled chatting at Conan O\u2019Brien\u2019s Christmas party<\/a> about how the movie business has \u201cchanged\u201d over the years.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had spent the night before together and [were] talking about our careers together,\u201d the comedian told Stephen Colbert Tuesday (as seen above). Scott Kowalchyk \/CBS<\/p>\n

\u201cWe talked about the fact that you can\u2019t control how a movie is going to do. What you can control is the experience of making it,\u201d he shared. <\/p>\n

\u201cAnd the experiences that we had together and that he had with his cast of his other movies was so extraordinary. He said, \u2018That\u2019s something you\u2019ll always have. Hits are great to have, but it\u2019s the people that you hold on to,\u2019\u201d Crystal recalled.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd so I kept that in my heart.\u201d<\/p>\n

Crystal, 78, went on to describe Reiner as \u201chilarious, devoted, opinionated \u2014 in the best way \u2014 fighting for the truth for our country and the greatest comedy taste.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe could talk about everything. He was an uncle to my kids,\u201d Billy \u2014 who shares daughters, Jennifer, 53, and Lindsay, 48, with wife Janice Crystal \u2014 shared.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are so many moments that I just \u2014 when something good happens or \u2018Isn\u2019t that crazy?\u2019 \u2014 I want to pick up the phone and call. Because that\u2019s what we would do.\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u201cPrincess Bride\u201d actor said Reiner\u2019s death has been a \u201cprofound loss\u201d for humanity. <\/p>\n

\u201cHe was the most human person that I ever met,\u201d he concluded. <\/p>\n
