{"id":73082,"date":"2025-07-18T16:24:12","date_gmt":"2025-07-18T16:24:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/73082\/"},"modified":"2025-07-18T16:24:12","modified_gmt":"2025-07-18T16:24:12","slug":"varjo-is-pulling-support-for-all-of-its-older-xr-headsets-next-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/73082\/","title":{"rendered":"Varjo is Pulling Support for All of Its Older XR Headsets Next Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Varjo announced that starting next year, it\u2019s no longer supporting its fleet of third generation XR headsets, which includes XR-3, VR-3, and Varjo Aero.<\/p>\n<p>As first spotted by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.xrtoday.com\/mixed-reality\/end-of-an-era-varjo-pulls-the-plug-on-gen-3-headsets\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">XT Today<\/a>, Varjo says it\u2019s now \u201cfocusing our manufacturing efforts on the XR-4 Series headsets,\u201d which released in late 2023.<\/p>\n<p>The Finland-based company notes in <a href=\"https:\/\/support.varjo.com\/hc\/en-us\/when-will-support-end-for-older-generation-models-xr-3-vr-3-and-varjo-aero\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">a support FAQ<\/a>\u00a0that its companion software, Varjo Base, will receive software updates and bug fixes until the January 1st, 2026 cutoff date.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/varjo-xr-3-vr-3-11.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy lazy-hidden size-full wp-image-99399\" data-lazy-type=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/varjo-xr-3-vr-3-11.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\"  \/><\/a>Image courtesy Varjo<\/p>\n<p>After its final update, the company says that owners of XR-3, VR-3, and Aero can still use older versions of the software, but this also includes the end of customer support, technical and developer assistance for those devices.<\/p>\n<p>Released in 2021, Varjo\u2019s third-gen headsets marked the company\u2019s departure from solely focusing on enterprise headsets. While both its\u00a0XR-3 and\u00a0VR-3 were squarely targeted at businesses with cash to spare\u2014priced at $5,495 and\u00a0$3,195 respectively\u2014which included an obligatory annual subscription fee, Aero was the company\u2019s first to actively appeal to prosumers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/varjo-aero-1-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy lazy-hidden size-full wp-image-104881\" data-lazy-type=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/varjo-aero-1-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1125\"  \/><\/a>Varjo Aero | image courtesy Varjo<\/p>\n<p>Released in late 2021, Aero was priced at $2,000, which included subscription-free compatibility with SteamVR via Varjo Base (i.e. you can\u2019t just plug it in like Valve Index, Bigscreen Beyond 2, etc).<\/p>\n<p>Although Aero was by far one of the most expensive prosumer PC VR headsets on offer at the time, it wasn\u2019t for naught. In our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.roadtovr.com\/varjo-aero-review-vr-simmers-vr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">deep dive review of Aero<\/a>, Road to VR\u2019s\u00a0Ben Lang praised the headset\u2019s \u201cstunning clarity,\u201d noting it was poised to be \u201ca dream headset for VR simmers who aren\u2019t afraid to trade cash for immersion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Notably, Varjo has been sold out of all third-gen headsets for at least over a year now, with the company additionally confirming production has been discontinued for these devices.<\/p>\n<p>This leaves the Varjo\u2019s main focus on its XR-4 Series headsets, which were released in late 2023, marking a return to its enterprise-only roots.
