{"id":73171,"date":"2025-07-18T17:10:09","date_gmt":"2025-07-18T17:10:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/73171\/"},"modified":"2025-07-18T17:10:09","modified_gmt":"2025-07-18T17:10:09","slug":"ottawa-officer-removed-after-army-learned-of-antisemitic-homophobic-blue-hackle-mafia-group","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/73171\/","title":{"rendered":"Ottawa officer removed after army learned of antisemitic, homophobic\u00a0&#8216;Blue Hackle Mafia&#8217; group"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The head of the Canadian Army has temporarily removed the commanding officer of the Cameron Highlanders in Ottawa after discovering a Facebook group with &#8220;abhorrent&#8221; content.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As CBC News\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/politics\/army-racist-antisemitic-group-chat-blue-hackle-mafia-1.7576305\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reported earlier this month<\/a>, the Canadian Armed Forces has been investigating\u00a0what was called the &#8220;Blue Hackle Mafia&#8221; group, which the army said was\u00a0littered with &#8220;racist, misogynistic, homophobic and antisemitic comments and images.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Army commander Lt.-Gen. Michael Wright said in a July 16 message to members that he was taking steps to address the &#8220;inappropriate behaviour&#8221; in a Facebook group.<\/p>\n<p>Those\u00a0steps\u00a0include\u00a0temporarily removing the head of the\u00a0Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa,\u00a0a reserve infantry regiment of the Canadian Army, as an investigation into the group continues,\u00a0he said.\u00a0An interim head officer has been appointed to oversee the unit.<\/p>\n<p>The statement\u00a0does not include names, but\u00a0the regiment&#8217;s\u00a0website lists Lt.-Col. Ryan Hendy\u00a0as the commanding officer.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This incident has damaged the reputation of the Canadian Army at a time when we are engaged in important modernization work as part of a ready, resilient, and relevant Canadian Armed Forces,&#8221; Wright wrote in the statement.<\/p>\n<p>He previously described the Facebook group&#8217;s content as &#8220;abhorrent&#8221; and said he was &#8220;disgusted&#8221; by\u00a0some of the posts.<\/p>\n<p>According to screenshots\u00a0of the Blue Hackle Mafia group <a href=\"https:\/\/ottawacitizen.com\/public-service\/defence-watch\/canadian-soldiers-investigation-explicit-photos\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">shared with the Ottawa Citizen<\/a>, the group posted hateful comments directed toward\u00a0women and derogatory sexual comments about former prime minister Justin Trudeau.<\/p>\n<p>In one posting described by the newspaper, members talked\u00a0about getting together for drinks at an Ottawa bar.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;All welcome (except the Jews of course),&#8221; responded a member.<\/p>\n<p>CBC News has not verified the screenshots.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Wright&#8217;s statement goes on to say\u00a0the army is investigating the alleged unethical conduct of any serving Canadian Army members who were part of the group.
