{"id":732740,"date":"2026-04-16T19:13:35","date_gmt":"2026-04-16T19:13:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/732740\/"},"modified":"2026-04-16T19:13:35","modified_gmt":"2026-04-16T19:13:35","slug":"big-changes-made-to-phoenix-first-friday-following-after-hours-violence-community-input","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/732740\/","title":{"rendered":"Big changes made to Phoenix First Friday following after-hours violence, community input"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The decision was made after &#8220;careful consideration and discussion with our neighbors, stakeholders and City of Phoenix partners,&#8221; Downtown Phoenix said.<\/p>\n<p>PHOENIX \u2014 Downtown Phoenix has made some changes to First Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Announced on Thursday, Phoenix First Friday will not include the ARTS Market street closure and vendor experience on Roosevelt Street for the foreseeable future.<\/p>\n<p>The decision was made after a discussion with neighbors, stakeholders and City of Phoenix partners.<\/p>\n<p>These changes also come after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.12news.com\/article\/news\/local\/valley\/police-pepper-balls-disperse-crowd-fight-breaks-out-downtown\/75-03b00e6f-4942-49c6-a6dd-f052279b1374\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" id=\"isPasted\">a fight<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.12news.com\/article\/news\/crime\/suspect-at-large-2-people-shot-first-friday-festival-downtown-phoenix\/75-eb82cb7b-b128-4e84-b596-0709d52c5b6c\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">a shooting<\/a> was reported on March 6 during Phoenix First Friday&#8217;s after-hours.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Phoenix First Friday on Roosevelt Street requires reevaluation, especially in light of recent violence that has occurred in, or in close proximity to, the ARTS Market footprint,&#8221; officials told 12News in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>The current climate of the Roosevelt Street experience on Phoenix First Friday doesn&#8217;t serve artists, nor the small businesses that rely on current leadership for safety and memorable experiences for visitors and residents nearby, Downtown Phoenix said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The next few months will be spent working to refocus and recalibrate Roosevelt Row\u2019s contributions to Phoenix First Friday as a point of pride for our neighborhood and city,&#8221; officials told 12News.<\/p>\n<p>Despite these changes, small businesses, galleries and arts and culture organizations along Roosevelt Row will stay open and active on Phoenix First Friday.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&gt;&gt; Download the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.12news.com\/appredirect\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" id=\"isPasted\">12News app<\/a> for the latest local breaking news straight to your phone.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Valley\u201d is what locals call the Phoenix Metropolitan Area. It is considered the largest metropolitan area in the Southwest. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Valley is made up of various major cities other than Phoenix, including: \u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Mesa \u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Chandler \u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Scottsdale \u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Tempe \u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Glendale \u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Surprise \u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Peoria \u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Gilbert \u00a0<\/li>\n<li>El Mirage\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Avondale\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Litchfield Park\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Goodyear\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Buckeye\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Whether a city is in the \u201cEast Valley\u201d or \u201cWest Valley\u201d depends on where it is in relation to Phoenix. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The cities of the Valley have a combined population of 4,845,832 people, according to the 2020 United States Census.
