BRAZZAVILLE, Republic of Congo (AP) \u2014 Denis Sassou N\u2019Guesso was sworn in Thursday to a new five-year term as the Republic of Congo\u2019s<\/a> president in a ceremony in a packed stadium.<\/p>\n

The inauguration took place in Kint\u00e9l\u00e9, a town north of the capital city of Brazzaville.<\/p>\n

Sassou N\u2019Guesso was reelected in March with 94.8% of the vote, extending his 42-year rule over the oil-rich Central African country. He ran against six relatively unknown candidates.<\/p>\n

In his inaugural speech, he said he would not \u201cbetray the people who mobilized to honor him and reaffirm their support.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Central African country is struggling<\/a> with a sky-high debt-to-GDP ratio – which measures a country\u2019s debt compared to its economic output – according to the World Bank, and climbing youth unemployment. <\/p>\n

Sassou N\u2019Guesso is the third-longest ruling African leader, after Cameroon<\/a> \u2019s Paul Biya and Equatorial Guinea<\/a> \u2019s Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo.
