Scottie Scheffler experienced another awkward media interaction at the RBC Heritage, just days on from hitting out at some \u2018awful\u2019 Masters questions.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Scheffler was left annoyed at Augusta National<\/a> on Saturday night following a journalist\u2019s question regarding his third round 65.<\/p>\n

Asked \u2018what does it feel like it could have or should have been?’ after his bogey-free, seven-under round, Scheffler answered: \u201cThat\u2019s just a terrible question. Next question. Awful.\u201d<\/p>\n

He gave a cold look towards the reporter but eventually relented, giving a wry smile and laugh to soften his harsh comment.<\/p>\n

It was the latest in a growing trend of the 29-year-old not taking kindly to some questions from the media.<\/p>\n

And now, he\u2019s suffered another odd moment when talking to the press after his first round at the RBC Heritage<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Scheffler had a nightmare start to his opening round in Harbour Town, smashing his drive out-of-bounds.<\/p>\n

He did brilliantly to only drop one shot and would\u2019ve hoped to get that back on the par-5 second hole, one of the easiest on the course.<\/p>\n

However, Scheffler needed a smart chip to save par on the second and his first round 68 has left him five shots off the lead in Hilton Head.<\/p>\n

When taking questions from the media, Scheffler said he would\u2019ve \u2018wanted a better start\u2019 but was relieved to make bogey at the first following his wayward tee shot.<\/p>\n

Journalist Doug Ferguson then complemented him on his par on the second but Scheffler disagreed.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cI don\u2019t know if you could call that good, I did get up and down for par but that was more sloppy than good.\u201d<\/p>\n

The reporter replied: \u201cOK, just trying to make you look like a star, sorry.\u201d<\/p>\n

Scheffler exhaled a laugh and shook his head before simply saying \u2018thanks Doug\u2019 and moving swiftly on.<\/p>\n

Summing up his opening round, he added: “I feel like I did some good stuff out there.<\/p>\n

“Conditions were tough late in the day. I did a lot of good things. Would have liked to have had a better start, but outside of that, I felt like I executed pretty well.”<\/p>\n

Scheffler won the RBC Heritage in 2024 and the four-time major winner is looking for more success this week following his runner-up finish at the Masters<\/a> on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Harbour Town Golf Links<\/a> has undergone a six-month restoration since last year\u2019s tournament and Scheffler is happy with the improvement.<\/p>\n

“Yeah, I was pleased,” he said.<\/p>\n

“When you look at a place like this, if you had one of the restoration guys come in, typically what they do is they kind of widen things, they take out some trees, they make the greens a little bit bigger.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen we heard this golf course was going to get renovated, I think that was a fear of ours because it’s a special and unique place in the sense of you have to control your ball. You have to shape it both ways. You have to do different things with your golf ball, which when you look at modern golf course design, I think it’s a bit of a lost art in the way they do things.<\/p>\n

“When I got here and was looking at the yardage book to see the changes they made to the course, I had to do a double-take; I’m like, ‘Did I get the right yardage book?’ This thing doesn’t even look any different.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think Davis [Love III, who helped the restoration] has a great understanding of what makes this golf course amazing, and he’s obviously had some success here, so he wasn’t going to come in and do a bunch of changes. But the things that he did, I definitely liked. But overall, he didn’t really do a whole lot, which I think when you have a gem like this is a good thing.”<\/p>\n
