{"id":735702,"date":"2026-04-18T02:02:14","date_gmt":"2026-04-18T02:02:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/735702\/"},"modified":"2026-04-18T02:02:14","modified_gmt":"2026-04-18T02:02:14","slug":"texas-tech-has-open-slots-in-27-after-acc-changes-prompt-2-cancellations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/735702\/","title":{"rendered":"Texas Tech has open slots in &#8217;27 after ACC changes prompt 2 cancellations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Apr 17, 2026, 08:31 PM ET<\/p>\n<p>LUBBOCK, Texas &#8212; Reigning Big 12 champion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/college-football\/team\/_\/id\/2641\/texas-tech-red-raiders\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Texas Tech<\/a> has open slots on its 2027 football schedule after the cancellations of two nonconference games, the school said Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Texas Tech officials said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/college-football\/team\/_\/id\/152\/nc-state-wolfpack\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NC State<\/a> cited changes in Atlantic Coast Conference scheduling when utilizing a buyout clause in the home-and-home agreement between the schools. The Wolfpack were supposed to play in Lubbock in 2027 after beating the Red Raiders at home in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>With the loss of that home game, Texas Tech in turn canceled its scheduled 2027 game at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/college-football\/team\/_\/id\/249\/north-texas-mean-green\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">North Texas<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Texas Tech athletic director Kirby Hocutt said the school hopes to soon finalize new agreements with a power conference and FBS school.<\/p>\n<p>North Texas will now play at <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"f46ccf4d-1031-4373-2a4b-bc8b3ad9ba97\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/college-football\/team\/_\/id\/2628\/tcu-horned-frogs\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">TCU<\/a>, another Big 12 team, on the second weekend of the 2027 season.
