\n\tBilly Joel<\/a> has resurfaced after revealing less than two months ago that he\u2019s been diagnosed with the brain disorder Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH)<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tWhen he announced the news, he canceled all of his upcoming concert gigs and was unable to attend the June Tribeca Festival premiere<\/a> of his HBO<\/a> documentary And So It Goes, the first part of which premieres on the premium cable channel Friday night. Part Two will air on Friday, July 25.<\/p>\n

\n\tBut Joel found time this past week to sit down with HBO\u2019s Real Time host Bill Maher<\/a> for an interview from Joel\u2019s home in Florida for Maher\u2019s Club Random podcast.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn a clip released Friday, the \u201cPiano Man\u201d musician opens up about the inspirations behind his biggest hit songs.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI don\u2019t want to tell you a story. I want to tell you my story,\u201d the \u201cMy Life\u201d songwriter, sitting at a piano, says in the preview posted to Maher\u2019s X account. <\/p>\n

\n\tJoel talks about the stories behind other hits like \u201cJust the Way You Are,\u201d an ode to his first love; \u201cUptown Girl,\u201d about his second wife Christie Brinkley; and \u201cShe\u2019s Always a Woman,\u201d a song about a complex and at times cruel woman who apparently served the singer well at one point during his early career.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cShe\u2019s always a woman to me. Hello?\u201d Joel insists in a light bulb moment. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe full interview with Maher on Club Random will be released Monday.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019m tipping over sacred cows all my life. I like to do that,\u201d Joel declares in the clip as he reflects on his 1977 hit \u201cOnly the Good Die Young,\u201d where the lyrics allude to a young Catholic woman and her attitudes to virginity and temptation in the face of a lustful young man.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThere is a code within the music<\/a> itself that has nothing to do with the words, that takes you to this place, if it\u2019s done right,\u201d Joel adds. On that theme, the legendary songwriter discusses his love of classical music.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s just music. And it can take me away somewhere else, completely. I get stoned from it. I literally get carried away listening to beautiful music,\u201d Joel reveals. <\/p>\n
