Good Luck Finding One"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li>Tesla has kicked off its Robotaxi rollout in Dallas and Houston.<\/li>\n<li>The company published a short video on social media, showcasing a driverless Tesla Model Y without a safety monitor in the passenger seat.<\/li>\n<li>The service area in each city is around 30 square miles, but the number of available cars is even smaller.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/tesla\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tesla<\/a> is now offering robotaxi rides in Dallas and Houston, expanding its self-driving taxi service network in the state of Texas.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The company published a short video on its official X account, showing a driverless Model Y without a safety monitor in the passenger seat, but it\u2019s unclear if the robotaxi service in the two cities will run without human safety monitors in the vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The American electric vehicle manufacturer\u2019s expanded network is currently limited to small sections of the two Texas cities, and the vehicle count is tiny. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/robotaxitracker.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">a third-party robotaxi tracker<\/a>, Tesla\u2019s footprint in Dallas is just 31 square miles, and 25 square miles in Houston, with a single <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/tesla\/model-y\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Model Y<\/a> available in each of the two towns.<\/p>\n<p>Waymo, the biggest player in the American robotaxi game, <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/779398\/waymo-more-cities-us-2026\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22779398%22%2C%22section%22%3A%221%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22waymo-more-cities-us-2026%22%7D\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">set up shop in Dallas and Houston<\/a> earlier this year, but its presence here is not much bigger than Tesla\u2019s. According to the same robotaxi tracker, Waymo operates a single robotaxi in a 23 sq mi geofenced area in Houston, while its 48 sq mi footprint in Dallas is handled by 16 Jaguar I-Pace EVs.<\/p>\n<p>Tesla\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/763581\/tesla-robotaxi-goes-live-austin\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22763581%22%2C%22section%22%3A%221%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22tesla-robotaxi-goes-live-austin%22%7D\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">first robotaxis went live last year in Austin<\/a>, Texas, where the company is headquartered. At first, the driverless Model Y electric crossovers had a safety monitor in the front passenger seat, but the company started to <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/781782\/tesla-removes-robotaxi-model-y-safety-driver-testing\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22781782%22%2C%22section%22%3A%221%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22tesla-removes-robotaxi-model-y-safety-driver-testing%22%7D\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ditch human monitors<\/a>, betting on a fully autonomous, unsupervised experience. Tesla also runs a <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/767585\/tesla-robotaxi-san-francisco-safety-driver\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22767585%22%2C%22section%22%3A%221%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22tesla-robotaxi-san-francisco-safety-driver%22%7D\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">supervised ride-hailing service in the Bay Area<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>That said, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/tesla-says-its-robotaxis-are-sometimes-driven-by-humans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Wired<\/a> report based on a series of letters sent by autonomous vehicle developers to Democratic US senator Ed Markey of Massachusetts revealed that Tesla\u2019s robotaxis are sometimes driven remotely by human operators.
