{"id":744134,"date":"2026-04-22T00:11:25","date_gmt":"2026-04-22T00:11:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/744134\/"},"modified":"2026-04-22T00:11:25","modified_gmt":"2026-04-22T00:11:25","slug":"gates-foundation-reviewing-jeffrey-epstein-ties-will-slash-staff-wsj","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/744134\/","title":{"rendered":"Gates Foundation reviewing Jeffrey Epstein ties, will slash staff: WSJ"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bill Gates speaks during the Gates Foundation&#8217;s first global Goalkeepers event in the Nordics, which is being held in Stockholm, Sweden, Jan. 22, 2026. <\/p>\n<p>TT News Agency | Stefan Jerrevang | Via Reuters<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gatesfoundation.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">The Gates Foundation<\/a> has launched an external review of the philanthropy&#8217;s past ties with notorious sex offender <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/03\/03\/epstein-kathryn-ruemmler-goldman-sachs.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jeffrey Epstein<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/business\/gates-foundation-to-cut-20-of-staff-review-epstein-ties-6df2ccea?mod=Searchresults&amp;pos=1&amp;page=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">The Wall Street Journal<\/a> reported Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>To cut costs, the Gates Foundation will eliminate up to 500 jobs, or about 20% of its staff, by 2030, the Journal reported, citing an email to staff that the newspaper reviewed announcing both the job cuts and Epstein ties review.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is a challenging time for our organization in many ways, but it also highlights the critical importance of taking the tough actions now,&#8221; Gates Foundation CEO Mark Suzman reportedly said in the memo.<\/p>\n<p>The Journal said the foundation, which has a 2026 budget of about $9 billion, plans to cap operating expenses at $1.25 billion.<\/p>\n<p>The Gates Foundation was founded by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/MSFT\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Microsoft<\/a> co-founder <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/bill-gates\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bill Gates<\/a> and his ex-wife, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/video\/2016\/02\/23\/bill-melinda-gates-superpowers.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Melinda Gates<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Gates is scheduled to be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/04\/07\/jeffrey-epstein-bill-gates-house-oversight.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">interviewed about Epstein<\/a> on June 10 by the <a href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">House Oversight and Government Reform Committee<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Gates Foundation, in an email to CNBC, said &#8220;For context, as we noted to the WSJ, neither of the &#8216;announcements&#8217; included in the article published today are new.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These were included in an update from CEO Mark Suzman to all foundation employees on a range of topics related to foundation operations,&#8221; the foundation said, pointing to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gatesfoundation.org\/ideas\/media-center\/press-releases\/2026\/01\/historic-annual-budget-to-accelerate-mission\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">press releases<\/a> about the budget cap and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gatesfoundation.org\/ideas\/media-center\/press-releases\/2026\/04\/external-review\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">review of Epstein&#8217;s relations<\/a> with the foundation released earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>In February, Bill Gates apologized to the foundation&#8217;s staff for his association with Epstein and admitted having affairs with two Russian women, which Epstein learned of, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/bill-gates-apologizes-to-foundation-staff-over-epstein-ties-67f39ef5?st=PF3vcJ&amp;reflink=desktopwebshare_permalink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">the Journal<\/a> previously reported.<\/p>\n<p>Gates told staff, &#8220;I did nothing illicit.
