{"id":74554,"date":"2025-07-19T05:13:09","date_gmt":"2025-07-19T05:13:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/74554\/"},"modified":"2025-07-19T05:13:09","modified_gmt":"2025-07-19T05:13:09","slug":"consumer-sentiment-rose-in-july-but-inflation-concerns-continue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/74554\/","title":{"rendered":"Consumer Sentiment Rose in July, but Inflation Concerns Continue"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Consumer sentiment inched up in July to reach its highest level in five months, though it remained below its December reading and its historical average, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sca.isr.umich.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">preliminary results<\/a> from the University of Michigan\u2019s Surveys of Consumers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The survey found that consumer sentiment rose by one index point but remained 16% below December.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Consumers\u2019 assessments of short-run business conditions improved by 8%, while their view of their expected personal finances sank about 4%, according to the preliminary results.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cConsumers are unlikely to regain their confidence in the economy unless they feel assured that inflation is unlikely to worsen, for example if trade policy stabilizes for the foreseeable future,\u201d Surveys of Consumers Director <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/joanne-hsu-12924941?original_referer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2F\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Joanne Hsu<\/a> wrote in the report.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The preliminary results found that the rate of inflation forecast by consumers fell to its lowest level since February but remained above December. This indicates that they \u201cstill perceive substantial risk that inflation will increase in the future,\u201d Hsu said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Consumers\u2019 year-ahead inflation expectations dropped from 5.0% in June to 4.4% in July, while their long-run inflation expectations fell from 4.0% to 3.6%.
