Korn<\/strong> guitarist Brian \u201cHead\u201d Welch<\/strong> recently showed some love to current alternative metal stars Deftones<\/strong>. In the below newly posted video on his social media, Welch<\/strong> can be seen wearing a Deftones<\/strong> x Dickies<\/strong> throwback shirt<\/a> \u2014 a long-bootlegged design Deftones<\/strong> officially resurrected last fall. Welch<\/strong> also busted out an acoustic guitar for a brief cover of Deftones<\/strong>\u2018 2x platinum 1997 single \u201cMy Own Summer (Shove It)<\/strong>\u201d in the clip.<\/p>\n

He ended the video with a shot of himself hanging with Israel Arvizu<\/strong>, son of \u2018retired\u2019 Korn<\/strong> bassist<\/a> Reginald \u201cFieldy\u201d Arvizu<\/strong>. Israel<\/strong> has followed in his father\u2019s footstep, playing bass in n\u00fc-metal outfit PlaYuH<\/strong>. Below you can watch him pick up where his dad left off, handling the low end duties on a cover of Korn<\/strong>\u2018s 1996 track \u201cNo Place To Hide<\/strong>\u201c.<\/p>\n

While Korn<\/strong> and Deftones<\/strong> were nearly inseparable in the mid to late 90s, Deftones<\/strong> sought to break free of the n\u00fc-metal trappings with 2000\u2019s \u201cWhite Pony<\/strong>\u201c. That desire to establish an identity all their own led the band to distance themselves from Korn<\/strong>, Limp Bizkit<\/strong> and more. That past tension has been covered extensively in the past<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Back in 2017, Welch<\/strong> himself lamented the rift of sorts<\/a> that grew between Korn<\/strong> and Deftones<\/strong>, stating of Deftones<\/strong> vocalist\/guitarist Chino Moreno<\/strong>, \u201cChino<\/strong>, Chino<\/strong> don\u2019t like Korn<\/strong> or any of us man. He won\u2019t tour with Korn<\/strong> \u2019cause we\u2019re not cool enough for him.\u2019 Welch<\/strong> further stated in that interview:<\/p>\n

\u201cI think they [Deftones<\/strong>] got too cool for us somewhere down the line. No but, he just said some stuff recently in the press and it got out there that [he wouldn\u2019t tour with Korn<\/strong>] and then all these fans hit him and said [Welch<\/strong> made an angry expression] so the next day he was like \u2018I love Korn<\/strong>, I want to tour with them next year.’\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Of course, as fans of both outfits are likely well aware, that tour has yet to materialize.
