Jeff Bezos and Lauren S\u00e1nchez are getting married<\/a> in Venice, Italy, next weekend, and the city\u2019s locals are pissed. They\u2019ve threatened to wreak havoc<\/a> on the lavish wedding events by blocking the streets and canals to cause disruption and have hoisted up signs that say \u201cNo Space for Bezos\u201d and another that has a bright-red X over the billionaire\u2019s name. Amid all of the backlash, the Bezos-S\u00e1nchez wedding planners are standing by their clients.<\/p>\n \u201cFrom the outset, instructions from our client and our own guiding principles were abundantly clear: the minimizing of any disruption to the city, the respect for its residents and institutions and the overwhelming employment of locals in the crafting of the events,\u201d Lanza & Baucina Limited said in a statement released to local press, per \u201cPage Six.\u201d<\/a> The company, founded by Prince Antonio Licata di Baucina and Count Riccardo Lanza, says that it\u2019s been actively working to avoid impacting the city negatively since it started planning.<\/p>\n \u201cWe have always acknowledged the wider debate and critical issues surrounding the city\u2019s future, and from the outset our client has been honored to support the city and its all-important lagoon through non-profit organizations and associated projects,\u201d the statement reads. It also addressed the report from the London Times<\/a> saying that the Bezos crew has booked all of the city\u2019s water taxis. \u201cRumors of \u2018taking over\u2019 the city are entirely false and diametrically opposed to our goals and to reality. No exaggerated quantity of water taxis or gondolas have ever been booked, the number of taxis reserved being proportionate for the number of guests.\u201d<\/p>\n Lanza & Baucina has produced plenty of high-profile weddings in Venice, including George and Amal Clooney\u2019s and Salma Hayek and Fran\u00e7ois-Henri Pinault\u2019s, but it likely wasn\u2019t met with the same vitriol from locals.
