{"id":747197,"date":"2026-04-23T08:01:15","date_gmt":"2026-04-23T08:01:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/747197\/"},"modified":"2026-04-23T08:01:15","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T08:01:15","slug":"fort-worth-isd-eyes-more-staff-cuts-school-closure-for-refugee-campus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/747197\/","title":{"rendered":"Fort Worth ISD eyes more staff cuts, school closure for refugee campus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>More staff cuts and the closing of another school is slated for the Fort Worth Independent School District as new leadership continues to shake up district operations amid a state takeover.<\/p>\n<p>District staff in the departments of Talent Management, Communications and Community Partnerships and Financial Services are positioned to be impacted by a reduction in force, pending a Board of Managers vote at its April 28 meeting.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting agenda, posted Wednesday evening, also shows staff at the International Newcomer Academy campus being impacted by the reduction in force after district leaders announced the campus\u2019 proposed closure during <a href=\"https:\/\/www.star-telegram.com\/news\/local\/education\/article315490140.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:a community meeting;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">a community meeting<\/a> on Tuesday night; the school in southeast Fort Worth serves refugee and immigrant students in sixth through ninth grade.<\/p>\n<p>Tuesday\u2019s meeting will be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.star-telegram.com\/news\/local\/education\/article315412858.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:the second time;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">the second time<\/a> in a month that the Board of Managers votes on staff cuts and restructuring decisions.<\/p>\n<p>The following positions will be affected, according to district records:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"content-list\">\n<li>\n<p>Postsecondary Specialists<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Campus Administrative Assistants &#8211; College and Career Readiness (CCR)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>SET Teachers\/LC Elementary Teachers<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Executive Director &#8211; Emergent Bilingual programs<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Director &#8211; Secondary Emergent Bilingual<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Director &#8211; Elementary Emergent Bilingual<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Coordinators &#8211; Elementary Emergent Bilingual<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Coordinators &#8211; Secondary Emergent Bilingual<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Coordinators &#8211; Dual Language K-12<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Coordinators &#8211; ESL (English as a Second Language) K-12<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Analyst \u2013 Emergent Bilingual Budget<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Analyst \u2013 SpEd (Special Education) Budget and Grants<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Specialists \u2013 Restorative practices<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Specialists \u2013 Equity &amp; Excellence<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Coordinator \u2013 Restorative practices<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Administrative Assistant \u2013 Adolescent Pregnancy<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Director \u2013 Elementary Literacy<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Director II \u2013 Learning and Leading (Academic Initiatives)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Analyst- Learning and Leading<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Director \u2013 CCMR (College, Career, and Military Readiness )<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Specialists \u2013 CTE (Career and Technical Education) Instructor<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li\/>\n<li>\n<p>STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Trailer Teachers (Grade 1-6 STEM)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Director \u2013 Compliance, Related Services and Special Programs<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Director \u2013 Evaluation, Child Find and Psychological Services<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Managers &#8211; ARD (Admission, Review and Dismissal) Committee<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Speech Therapy assistants<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Speech Therapists \u2013 part time<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Occupational Therapist \u2013 part time<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Physical Therapist \u2013 part time<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Specialists \u2013 Diagnostic Evaluation \u2013 part time<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Psychologists \u2013 part time<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cThis program change is part of the ongoing efforts to address the decrease in student enrollment, improve efficiency, and redirect resources to positively impact students. This restructuring will result in changes to a number of positions within the district,\u201d school district records state.<\/p>\n<p>As of Wednesday, there were 15 employees listed on the district\u2019s webpage for the Communications and Community Partnerships Department, including coordinators, directors and specialists. The webpage also listed one vacant position for a web coordinator for marketing and creative communications.<\/p>\n<p>The Financial Services Department webpage shows six employees while the Talent Management Department webpage lists about 50 employees.<\/p>\n<p>A separate agenda item for the Tuesday meeting also notes the proposed closing of the International Newcomer Academy for June of this year, as an update to the district\u2019s facility master plan that includes more than 18 school closures districtwide through 2029. The Board of Managers will also discuss Peter Licata\u2019s superintendent contract.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28.<\/p>\n<p>The wave of changes to Fort Worth ISD comes shortly after Texas Education Commissioner <a href=\"https:\/\/www.star-telegram.com\/news\/local\/education\/article315156566.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Mike Morath appointed last month;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">Mike Morath appointed last month<\/a> new superintendent Licata and a nine-person Board of Managers, who are taking the place of the elected school board for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.star-telegram.com\/news\/local\/education\/article315184959.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:at least two years.;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">at least two years.<\/a> Pete Geren is the president of the board.<\/p>\n<p>Their appointments marked the beginning of a state takeover of Fort Worth ISD that was prompted by a now-closed campus receiving five failed accountability ratings in a row by the state. This triggered a state law requiring Morath to either close the campus or replace the elected school board with a board of managers.
