{"id":74760,"date":"2025-07-19T07:04:11","date_gmt":"2025-07-19T07:04:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/74760\/"},"modified":"2025-07-19T07:04:11","modified_gmt":"2025-07-19T07:04:11","slug":"jorbit-vivas-takes-ownership-of-costly-yankees-blunder","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/74760\/","title":{"rendered":"Jorbit Vivas takes ownership of costly Yankees blunder"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ATLANTA \u2014 Jorbit Vivas says he likes to \u201cplay the game hard and correctly.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But the Yankees\u2019 rookie third baseman took his foot off the pedal at the worst time Friday night, committing a costly baserunning blunder that loomed over a <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/18\/sports\/yankees-bullpen-game-completely-blows-up-in-ugly-loss-to-braves\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">7-3 loss to the Braves at Truist Park<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Yankees trailed 3-0 in the third inning with two on and one out when Cody Bellinger flew out to right field. Vivas tried tagging up from second to advance 90 feet and thought he had third base, only to get tagged out to end the inning on a brutal double play that left Aaron Judge on deck.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Vivas slowed down before he got to third as Ronald Acu\u00f1a Jr. made a terrific throw and third baseman Nacho Alvarez made a heads-up play to act as if the throw was not coming until the very last second.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>New York Yankees\u2019 Jorbit Vivas was caught tagging up in the Yankees\u2019 loss on Friday night. AP<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s standing there, and it looked like he wasn\u2019t receiving the ball at all,\u201d Vivas said through an interpreter. \u201cBut that\u2019s not on him; it\u2019s on me there to make it to that base. Acu\u00f1a has a really strong arm and he can make a throw from anywhere. That\u2019s on me.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Third-base coach Luis Rojas ran up the line trying to get Vivas to slide on the play.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI picked him up, but I picked him up kind of late,\u201d Vivas said. \u201cThe third baseman was standing there a little bit in the way. But it\u2019s my fault.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Manager Aaron Boone, a former third baseman who often tried the play that Alvarez deftly made, said Vivas read Alvarez\u2019s body language and got tricked. Obviously a situation that can\u2019t happen.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Relievers Mark Leiter Jr. (left fibular head stress reaction) and Fernando Cruz are making progress in their respective recoveries. He recently underwent a follow-up MRI that showed enough healing to start throwing, though he will be built up slowly until he is fully healed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Luis Gil (lat strain) made his second rehab start Friday with Double-A Somerset, building up to 57 pitches across 3 \u00b9\/\u2083 innings in which he struck out seven, walked two and gave up two runs.
