New York<\/a> editor-in-chief David Haskell <\/strong>announced today that Ezra Marcus <\/strong>has joined the magazine\u2019s staff as a features writer, and Sam Adler-Bell<\/strong>, Carrie Battan<\/strong>, Jessica Bennett<\/strong>, Jazmine Hughes<\/strong>, and Caitlin Moscatello <\/strong>are now contributing writers at the award-winning magazine. Additionally, Michael Calderone <\/strong>is joining as deputy editor of the magazine\u2019s Intelligencer<\/a> vertical, and Jacob Rosenberg <\/strong>joined as a features editor. He has written extensively for New York, including a cover story<\/a> on a cult at Sarah Lawrence College that prompted a federal investigation of the ringleader Larry Ray and ultimately his conviction on federal charges of sex trafficking, racketeering, and extortion. Marcus also wrote about a scandal <\/a>at the L.A. restaurant Horses and crypto crimes<\/a> in a Soho townhouse.<\/p>\n Sam Adler-Bell has been writing about politics and ideas for over a decade and has contributed<\/a> to New York since 2022. His column \u201cFree Country\u201d quickly became essential reading, with analysis both timely and prescient, cutting through hypocrisy and displaying genuine interest in understanding the human impulses animating partisan politics. He co-hosts Know Your Enemy, a podcast about the history of right-wing politics in America.<\/p>\n As a contributor, Carrie Battan will write <\/a>a mix of features, profiles, and columns with a focus on arts, culture, and business. Her recent work for New York has included a deeply reported look<\/a> at the rise of Lauren S\u00e1nchez in the lead-up to the Bezos nuptials, a profile of the rising alt-pop star Audrey Hobert<\/a>, and a feature<\/a> about the tensions between New York City nannies and their employers. She was previously a staff writer for The New Yorker, where she wrote pop-music columns and reported on culture broadly. Her first book, an oral history of the television show Survivor called The Tribe Has Spoken, will be out in 2027.<\/p>\n Jessica Bennett\u2019s recent pieces for New York have included an unforgettable profile<\/a> of the publicist Peggy Siegal in the wake of the Epstein files\u2019 release, a cover story<\/a> on Wendy Williams\u2019s fight to be freed from conservatorship, and an audit<\/a> of the first-ever course on \u201cheterosexual studies.\u201d She previously spent a decade as a writer and editor at the New York Times, including a stint as the paper\u2019s first and only gender editor. She teaches journalism at NYU and is the author of two books.<\/p>\n Jazmine Hughes will focus on profiles, culture coverage, and New York City politics. Hughes, a recipient of two National Magazine Awards, had contributed to the magazine as an intern beginning in 2011, covering the legalization of same-sex marriage in New York State and the tenth anniversary of 9\/11. Her writing has appeared in Vogue, The New Yorker, the New York Times, Harper\u2019s Bazaar, and other publications. She lives between New York and Mexico.<\/p>\n Caitlin Moscatello contributes as a features writer, and her previous work for New York includes deep dives into the surge<\/a> of women being diagnosed with ADHD, a puzzling new eating disorder<\/a> in children, how a famous YouTuber<\/a> landed behind bars for child abuse, and the murky world of high-priced college consultants<\/a>. She is co-executive producer of the HBO documentary series An Update on Our Family, based on her New York feature<\/a> about family vloggers, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. She\u2019s also the author of See Jane Win: The Inspiring Story of the Women Changing American Politics. A National Magazine Award finalist, she\u2019s had her work appear in the New York Times, Vanity Fair, Harper\u2019s Bazaar, and Time, among other publications.<\/p>\n Michael Calderone starts May 4 as deputy editor of the magazine\u2019s Intelligencer vertical, which covers news, politics, and business. He will work with Intelligencer editor Jebediah Reed to set the site\u2019s direction and closely with the site\u2019s team of reporters and opinion writers. Calderone has covered the collision of media, politics, and power as a reporter and editor. He previously served as editor of Vanity Fair\u2019s The Hive and media editor at TheWrap and has reported on the industry for Politico, HuffPost, and the New York Observer. He has also taught reporting and media criticism at Princeton University and New York University.<\/p>\n Jacob Rosenberg was hired by the magazine as a features editor in March, with a focus on news, politics, and narrative and investigative features. He comes from Mother Jones, where he worked across the magazine, on everything from print features to daily blogs. Last year, he guided an award-winning series of articles<\/a> on the removal of Venezuelans living in the United States to a gulag-like prison in El Salvador. He has edited a wide range of features, including ones on bad bosses<\/a> and \u201cMar-a-Lago face<\/a>.\u201d Before Mother Jones, he worked at an alt-weekly in Arkansas.<\/p>\n New York Magazine was recently honored <\/a>by the American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME) with ten National Magazine Award nominations, twice as many as any other publication, including General Excellence (News, Sports, and Entertainment) for the 11th consecutive year.
