{"id":750803,"date":"2026-04-24T22:28:14","date_gmt":"2026-04-24T22:28:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/750803\/"},"modified":"2026-04-24T22:28:14","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T22:28:14","slug":"san-diego-leaders-celebrate-sister-city-relationship-with-marseille","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/750803\/","title":{"rendered":"San Diego leaders celebrate sister city relationship with Marseille"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>San Diego city leaders may not have taken a visit to the French Riviera Friday, but they got the next best thing, unveiling a new Sister City sign with the city of Marseille, France.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.afsandiego.org\/events-1\/french-market-in-san-diego-2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ceremony<\/a> on Friday coincided with the third edition of the French Market, transforming the Civic Center Courtyard into a \u201cvibrant celebration of French culture, cuisine and businesses in the heart of downtown,\u201d a city statement read.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSan Diego is proud to welcome Marseille as our newest sister city,\u201d said Mayor Todd Gloria. \u201cSan Diego\u2019s relationship with Marseille reflects who we are as a city \u2014 internationally connected, culturally rich and open for business. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom innovation and trade to education and community ties, this partnership will help strengthen our economy and deepen the connections between our two cities for years to come.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Both port cities in warm climates, San Diego and Marseille actually signed the sister city agreement last year during a World Trade Center San Diego-led trade mission to France, attended by Gloria and Rep. Scott Peters. <\/p>\n<p>The cities share some similar industries, including clean energy, life sciences, maritime businesses and advanced manufacturing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSan Diego is a global city, and we are more successful when we engage with the world,\u201d Peters said. \u201cThis sister city relationship creates powerful economic opportunity. From clean energy innovation to life sciences collaboration, these partnerships open markets, support high-quality jobs and ensure San Diego remains competitive in a rapidly changing global economy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The event at the Civic Center also featured Adrien Frier, Consul General of France in Los Angeles.
