PHOENIX (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 Friday night brought something special in the night sky for many Arizonans. A SpaceX Falcon 9 launched from the Vandenberg Space Force Base<\/a> in Southern California just before 9 p.m. and people all over the southwest saw the comet-like trail the rocket had.<\/p>\n

Even though the sun set just after 7:30 p.m., the rocket\u2019s exhaust plume was still illuminated in the night sky.<\/p>\n

The rocket is carrying 24 Starlink satellites that will be placed in low-Earth orbit.<\/p>\n

After the rocket splits off, the Falcon 9\u2019s first stage is expected to land on the Of Course I Still Love You droneship in the Pacific Ocean.<\/p>\n

Some people in Southern and central California may have heard one or more sonic booms during the launch, but nothing like that was heard in Arizona.<\/p>\n

A similar launch that could be seen in Arizona happened about a month ago<\/a>.<\/p>\n
