A 64-year-old man was seriously injured in Lakeside after a dispute over a no-parking zone escalated into violence, an incident captured on a home security camera.<\/p>\n
The confrontation happened Sunday afternoon outside a home on Petite Lane, where Andy York was shoved into a culvert, falling about four feet. His wife said the fall broke two bones in one of his legs.<\/p>\n
Authorities say the man accused of shoving York now faces a felony charge of battery causing serious bodily injury. His name has not been released, and the San Diego County District Attorney\u2019s Office is reviewing the case.<\/p>\n
Video of the incident, which has circulated on social media, shows York approaching a group about parking in what his family says is a private drive with no parking allowed. Although there is no audio, the footage appears to show a man shove York during the exchange.<\/p>\n
About 25 seconds later, York is seen being pushed again \u2014 this time violently \u2014 sending him into the culvert.<\/p>\n
Neighbor Tim Doyle said the incident is hard to believe, given York\u2019s personality.<\/p>\n
\u201cAndy is the easiest-going guy there is,\u201d Doyle said.<\/p>\n
Doyle said York had calmly asked the group to move their vehicles before the situation escalated.<\/p>\n
\u201cI just couldn\u2019t believe it, ’cause Andy is so calm, and he just calmly asked the guy to move,\u201d Doyle said.<\/p>\n
The video also appears to show two women at the scene, one of whom was recording on a cell phone. After York fell, another woman stood over him and appeared to continue confronting him as he lay injured.<\/p>\n
Neighbors said the area where the incident happened \u2014 near the corner of Lindo and Petite lanes \u2014 has long been a source of frustration due to illegal parking.<\/p>\n
\u201cI just have to stop and wait for people to walk because the cars are parked there,\u201d Doyle said. \u201cThere may be sometimes 5, 6 or 10 cars parked there at a time.\u201d<\/p>\n
For York, the aftermath will include months of recovery. If convicted, the suspect could face significant time behind bars.<\/p>\n
