The sprawling Fifth Avenue co-op that actress Candice Bergen once shared with her late husband Marshall Rose has been listed<\/a> for sale at $35 million. Rose, a real-estate developer known for<\/a> reviving the main branch of the New York Public Library and Bryant Park, passed away last year. Their apartment at 1040 Fifth is accessed through a private elevator, spans the entire 16th floor, and has unobstructed views of Central Park and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. (Compass broker Marc Achilles, who co-listed the unit, said on a call that he could not disclose the seller.)<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a grand apartment in a storied building: One of architect Rosario Candela\u2019s most celebrated designs, it was also home to Jackie Kennedy Onassis until her death in 1996. (This listing is just one floor above her former apartment, which she bought for $200,000 in 1964; a recent surge in interest has followed in the Love Story<\/a> of it all.) Rose and Bergen\u2019s five-bedroom, four-bath residence is similarly glamorous with a park-facing terrace, multiple working fireplaces, and a stately wood-paneled library. The kitchen reaches Nancy Meyers proportions, complete with an island and its own terrace. The bedrooms are appropriately huge, and the primary comes with its own fireplace and windows on three sides.<\/p>\n

The apartment seems built for entertaining: The New York Times once wrote<\/a> about Bergen and Rose hosting a 16-person dinner party at No. 16 that included Bette Midler and Tom Brokaw as part of a Central Park Conservancy fundraiser organized by Eleanora Kennedy. \u201cMs. Bergen had a moment of panic at 7 p.m., when the doorman announced that Liz Smith, the syndicated columnist, was downstairs,\u201d per the Times. We\u2019re sure she was suitably impressed.<\/p>\n
