{"id":752686,"date":"2026-04-25T18:12:27","date_gmt":"2026-04-25T18:12:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/752686\/"},"modified":"2026-04-25T18:12:27","modified_gmt":"2026-04-25T18:12:27","slug":"max-scherzers-blue-jays-future-comes-into-question-as-disastrous-season-continues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/752686\/","title":{"rendered":"Max Scherzer&#8217;s Blue Jays&#8217; future comes into question as disastrous season continues"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Max Scherzer\u2019s future in the Blue Jays\u2019 rotation appears to be in question after another rough outing Friday and with a few injured arms seemingly set to return soon.<\/p>\n<p>The 41-year-old Scherzer, who returned for another\u00a0bite at the apple after the team lost Game 7 of the World Series last season, has badly struggled through three of his five starts so far.<\/p>\n<p>He lasted just 2 1\/3 innings against Cleveland on Friday, coughing up seven runs on six hits with three walks and three home runs allowed in an 8-6 home loss.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"39195840\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/toronto-blue-jays-pitcher-max-126342649.jpg\" alt=\"Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Max Scherzer in a black jersey and cap, touching his head.\" class=\"wp-image-39195840\"  \/>Max Scherzer is struggling to open the 2026 season. Kevin Sousa-Imagn Images<\/p>\n<p>Scherzer didn\u2019t strike out a single batter either after recording just one punch-out in his last start against the Diamondbacks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt just stinks to lose this one. All of the other guys in the clubhouse did their job,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mlb.com\/bluejays\/news\/max-scherzer-s-struggles-continue-in-start-vs-guardians\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Scherzer told reporters<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe offense fought. The bullpen came in and stepped up to cover some innings there. It stinks to have a clunker out there. I\u2019ve got to watch the tape tomorrow and get back to work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Making matters more pressing for Toronto is that Trey Yesavage, Jose Berrios and Shane Bieber are all starting to circle dates to return from their respective injuries.<\/p>\n<p>Scherzer is staying in the rotation, for now, with the team instead demoting Eric Lauer to the bullpen with Yesavage returning from his shoulder impingement Tuesday against the Red Sox, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/KeeganMatheson\/status\/2048073982960664675\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">per MLB.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"39195839\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/toronto-blue-jays-pitcher-max-126344085.jpg\" alt=\"Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Max Scherzer being taken out of a baseball game by manager John Schneider.\" class=\"wp-image-39195839\"  \/>Max Scherzer lasted just 1\/3 innings against the Guardians on Friday.
