(Chicago Tribune historical photo)<\/p>\n<p><strong>1949:<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/chicagotribune.newspapers.com\/article\/chicago-tribune-president-harry-truman-s\/162115497\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">President Harry Truman<\/a> spoke at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/2023\/05\/11\/vintage-chicago-tribune-medinah-temple-from-shriners-to-circus-couches-to-casino-through-the-decades\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Shriners convention<\/a>, of which he was a member. It was one of the first televised events at the stadium.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe formation of foreign policy on the part of the democratic nations may be a slow and painful process, but the results endure,\u201d Truman <a href=\"https:\/\/chicagotribune.newspapers.com\/article\/chicago-tribune-text-of-president-roosev\/176929449\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told the crowd<\/a>. \u201cIt is only in the totalitarian states, where all decisions are made by a few men at the top, that foreign policies can be reversed or radically altered in secrecy, or changed abruptly without warning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe huge bowl of Soldiers\u2019 field looked like a flower garden yesterday \u2014 blazing with the blue, red, gold, green, and white uniforms of the members of the Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, in Chicago to celebrate the diamond jubilee of their fraternity,\u201d the Tribune reported.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"A piping plover adults, female Rose, left, sitting on the nest, as the male Monty\u00a0approaches to relieve her at Montrose Beach in Chicago on July 18, 2019. Nicknamed Monty and Rose, the pair continued to migrate to the area and hatch chicks for three consecutive summers.
