{"id":753972,"date":"2026-04-26T08:00:18","date_gmt":"2026-04-26T08:00:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/753972\/"},"modified":"2026-04-26T08:00:18","modified_gmt":"2026-04-26T08:00:18","slug":"orban-relinquishes-seat-in-hungarys-parliament-politico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/753972\/","title":{"rendered":"Orb\u00e1n relinquishes seat in Hungary\u2019s parliament \u2013 POLITICO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the April 12 parliamentary election, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/peter-magyar-wants-put-austro-hungarian-empire-back-map\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/peter-magyar-wants-put-austro-hungarian-empire-back-map\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">P\u00e9ter Magyar\u2019s Tisza party<\/a> scored a supermajority, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/commission-heads-hungary-budapest-friday-eu-funds-negotiations\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/commission-heads-hungary-budapest-friday-eu-funds-negotiations\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">winning 141 seats<\/a> out of 199 in the Hungarian national assembly, while <a href=\"https:\/\/vtr.valasztas.hu\/ogy2026\/orszaggyules-osszetetele\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Orb\u00e1n\u2019s Fidesz party<\/a>\u00a0came in a distant second with just 52 seats.<\/p>\n<p>Orb\u00e1n said the Fidesz parliamentary grouping will be led by Gergely Guly\u00e1s, who has been serving as overseer of the Prime Minister\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n<p>Orb\u00e1n has held a seat in the parliament since 1990, and has led Fidesz throughout that period. He has served as Hungary\u2019s prime minister since 2010. <\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/magyarpeterMP\/status\/2048060122329456752\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/x.com\/magyarpeterMP\/status\/2048060122329456752\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">social media post<\/a> Saturday evening, Magyar said Orb\u00e1n \u201cis <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/magyarpeterMP\/status\/2048060122329456752\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/x.com\/magyarpeterMP\/status\/2048060122329456752\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">still incapable of one thing<\/a>: taking responsibility.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Magyar is expected to be installed as prime minister by parliament\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/hungary-magyar-orban-new-government-election-tisza-ebafb7995ba4a1ddcd557665956ad992\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">in early May<\/a>.
