Saturday\u2019s Chicano Park festivities in Barrio Logan got a surprise guest with a performance by singer Alicia Keys.<\/p>\n
Social media lit up with footage of Keys<\/a> singing<\/a> atop the roof<\/a> of Arts-Rec,<\/a> a neighborhood<\/a> skate shop. Keys was joined by her husband, rapper\/producer Kasseem Dean (a.k.a. Swizz Beatz).<\/p>\n\n The couple\u2019s appearance coincided with the opening<\/a> of \u201cGiants: Art from the Dean Collection of Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys\u201d at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego in La Jolla. They bought a home in the area in 2019.<\/a><\/p>\n The exhibition, which showcases the couple\u2019s personal collection, \u201cchampions artists who continue to shape culture and move us forward,\u201d Keys wrote<\/a> on her Instagram account.<\/p>\n \u201cTo experience that together, in a time when it\u2019s needed more than ever is truly unstoppable!! Thank you for bringing your magic,\u201d she posted. Swizz (a.k.a. Kasseem Dean, Keys\u2019 husband) shared photos<\/a> on his own account of himself taking his grandmother to the exhibition, calling it \u201ca moment in history.\u201d<\/p>\n The appearance came around two months after the Deans bought every photograph in an exhibition by two local artists, Oscar Cruz and MJ Pimentel, at another Barrio Logan business, Por Vida.<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cI think about 95 or so percent of the photos were taken in Barrio Logan, of the community, of the people that are there, the actual grandmas, the grandpas, the kids, the park,\u201d co-owner Milo Lorenzana told<\/a> KPBS at the time. \u201cjust highlighting the things that create the fabric of Barrio Logan.\u201d<\/p>\n We contacted Arts-Rec seeking comment on the Deans\u2019 appearance, but the store has not responded.<\/p>\n \t
