A police<\/a> officer was forced to do a double take while on patrol in a coastal city last month after he spotted a baffling item precariously\u00a0balanced on the roof of a driver\u2019s car.<\/p>\n

Bodycam footage of the stop shows the puzzled officer greet the motorist one afternoon in Albany, Western Australia<\/a>, before pointing out the glaring red flag sitting just centimetres above his head.<\/p>\n

Video of the random breath test has gone viral<\/a> after it was released by the WA Police Force on Friday, and while authorities have made their feelings about the incident clear, thousands of viewers couldn\u2019t resist cracking a joke.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome people leave their phone on the roof. This guy? His beer bottle,\u201d the force captioned the clip. \u201cNothing says \u2018pull me over\u2019 quite like mobile happy hour.<\/p>\n

\u201c42,599.73 hours spent patrolling the roads. 707 traffic charges. One beer bottle found on roof,\u201d officers added. \u201cLet\u2019s keep the drinks in the fridge, not on the freeway.\u201d<\/p>\n

Aussie driver blows more than seven times the legal BAC<\/p>\n

Police spotted the vehicle with the beer bottle on the roof at around 5pm on June 9, a spokesperson for WA Police told Yahoo News.<\/p>\n

In the footage, the officer asks the driver if he had consumed any alcohol that day. \u201cNot this morning, no,\u201d the man responds, prompting the cop to point out the glass hitchhiker.<\/p>\n

\u201cOh,\u201d the driver says before blowing 0.367 \u2014 more than seven times the legal blood alcohol content (BAC) limit.<\/p>\n

A random breath test revealed the driver’s blood alcohol content was seven times the legal limit. He was fined $4000 and had his licence disqualified for three years. Source: WA Police<\/p>\n

The motorist, who said the bottle had been on his car roof since the prior night, was arrested and charged with driving a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, the police spokesperson told Yahoo. He appeared before the Perth Magistrates Court on July 6, where he was issued a $4,000 fine<\/a> and had his licence disqualified<\/a> for three years.<\/p>\n

Many Aussies have praised the police officer online for doing a \u201cgood job\u201d, while others wondered how the beer bottle had stayed upright. \u201cThis is the new \u2018waiting for a mate\u2019,\u201d one woman commented.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow is he still upright?\u201d someone else said. \u201cUnbelievable,\u201d a third person wrote.<\/p>\n
