Bear Den Cat Sanctuary founder Blake Stehling this week launched her first-ever children\u2019s book. \u201cOne Dog at a Cat Sanctuary,\u201d a story about the feline refuge\u2019s lone dog who wandered on the property a few years ago.<\/p>\n

Stehling founded Bear Den Cat Sanctuary in Bulverde in 2021, a 3-acre ranch for unhoused and abandoned cats. An aesthetic nurse by trade, Stehling previously told the Current that she got the idea for her cat sanctuary<\/a> one day while pondering the type of legacy she wanted to leave behind.<\/p>\n

\u201cI got to a point where I started to question, \u2018What am I doing with my life?\u201d Stehling said. \u201cHow am I going to leave the world a better place than when I got here?\u201d<\/p>\n

Now, she can add \u201cchildren\u2019s book author\u201d to her list of accolades.<\/p>\n

Her new book follows that of \u201cDog,\u201d a stray dog that was either dumped or wandered onto the ranch, who, despite being a canine, found a family among the sanctuary\u2019s more than a hundred cats.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s the true story about how Dog landed up here at the Cat Sanctuary,\u201d Stehling told the Current. \u201cI\u2019ve never had a dog before, so that was a whole new experience. I told my daughter we can\u2019t have a dog at a cat sanctuary. But little by little, we started letting her free-roam, and these feral cats just started loving her. It was crazy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Indeed, \u201cOne Dog at a Cat Sanctuary\u201d isn\u2019t just about the story of Dog, but rather, how sworn enemies can become best friends in the most unusual of circumstances.<\/p>\n

Stehling\u2019s book is on sale now at Barnes & Noble, Amazon, and will soon be available at Target. All profits go towards caring for the cats at the sanctuary.<\/p>\n
