A rock climber has died in hospital after falling from Mount Arapiles in western Victoria yesterday.<\/p>\n

The 24-year-old woman from New South Wales fell during a climb<\/a> at the popular site, known as Organ Pipes, about 11:30am.<\/p>\n

SES volunteers climbed alongside paramedics to reach the injured woman and carry out a high-angle rescue.<\/p>\n

A specialist Air Ambulance Victoria crew winched the woman out from where she fell and moved her to a nearby paddock, where she was treated by an advanced life support crew and mobile intensive care paramedics for more than an hour.<\/p>\n

She was flown to the Alfred Hospital in a critical condition with upper-body injuries, but later died.<\/p>\n

This morning, Horsham Police Acting Senior Sergeant Dale McIvor confirmed the climber had tragically succumbed to her injuries overnight.<\/p>\n

“It’s unfortunate, these incidents on the rock happen from time to time, but it’s just sad when they do,” he said.<\/p>\n

He said he could not provide any further details, given that the incident would be the subject of a coronial investigation.<\/p>\n
