The grieving widow of slain NYPD Detective Jonathan Diller<\/a> tore into his killer in a Queens courtroom Monday \u2014 moments before a judge sent him to the slammer for life.<\/p>\n

Stephanie Diller delivered an emotional statement denouncing Guy Rivera<\/a>, 36, for the senseless 2024 shooting death of her husband as dozens of New York\u2019s Finest looked on.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne day you will stand before God and answer for what you did to Jonathan,\u201d she told her husband\u2019s killer.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have given us a life sentence without him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Queens Supreme Court Justice Michael Aloise said the hefty prison term was an easy decision \u2014 sentencing the cop-killer to 115 years to life in prison.<\/p>\n

\u201cMr. Rivera, it took me five minutes to calculate these numbers,\u201d he said. \u201cIt will take you a lifetime to calculate the grief you have\u00a0caused these people.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd to the family,\u201d the judge added, \u201cI know the defendant killed your loved one, and nothing can take away that loss, not even the knowledge that the defendant will die in a prison cell, which I promise you he will.\u201d<\/p>\n

Diller\u2019s wife<\/a>, who delivered powerful testimony during Rivera\u2019s trial, also slammed him for leaving her young son without a father.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is a silence in our house where there should be his voice. The person who lost the most is our son Ryan,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s the latest on the shocking mixed verdict reached for career criminal who killed NYPD hero Johnathan Diller<\/p>\n

The slain cop\u2019s mother, Fran Diller, then took her turn, pleading for the judge to deliver the maximum sentence allowed by law.<\/p>\n

\u201cYour honor, I have watched the defendant in court over the last two years. I have never seen any remorse, only concern for himself,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe didn\u2019t just take our loved one, he took our whole world,\u201d the grieving woman continued. \u201cMy son deserves justice.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rivera shot and killed Diller<\/a> during a scuffle with police in Far Rockaway on March 25, 2024, with the fatal encounter caught on chilling bodycam.<\/p>\n

Dozens of NYPD officers packed the courtroom during the thug\u2019s trial, providing support for the fallen cop\u2019s widow, who broke down on April 1 when the jury acquitted Rivera of the top murder charge.<\/p>\n

Rivera<\/a>\u00a0was instead convicted of\u00a0manslaughter,\u00a0of the attempted murder of NYPD Sgt. Sasha Rosen and of illegal weapons charges.<\/p>\n

The career criminal faced a sentence of 90 years to life behind bars, but Aloise tacked on another 25 years, as allowed under state law\u00a0for \u201cpersistent predicate felons,\u201d\u00a0due to his lengthy rap sheet.<\/p>\n

Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said her office made the request, adding in a statement that \u201ctoday\u2019s sentence of 115 years to life in prison does not erase the tragedy of March 25, 2024, but it ensures that this defendant will never be free again to terrorize the streets of New York City.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis defendant ignored repeated lawful commands and used an illegal firearm to kill a dedicated police officer and attempt to murder an NYPD sergeant,\u201d Katz said. \u201cJonathan Diller represented the very best of law enforcement: courage, commitment and service to community. He was a father, a husband and a son. He was also a dedicated member of the New York City Police Department who put on a uniform every day to protect our city. The void left by his senseless loss at the hands of this defendant is immeasurable.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rivera, who was dressed in all black, opted not to address the court during the sentencing hearing \u2014 while his lawyer griped that he did not get a fair trial and harped on the murder charge acquittal.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cUnder the law, he is not a murderer because he never intended to murder Jonathan Diller,\u201d defense attorney Jamall Johnson told the judge. \u201cMr. Rivera did not receive a fair trial. The jury did not have all of the evidence.\u201d<\/p>\n

Johnson said he would appeal the verdict \u2014 but the judge had his own reprimand for the lawyer.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was one argument you made to this jury that really hit home,\u201d Aloise said, referring to Johnson\u2019s claims at trial that his client had just made a bad decision.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cI wasn\u2019t mad at you for doing it. I was saddened at the reality of how low we\u2019ve sunk, morally, as a society,\u201d Aloise told the lawyer Monday.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you equate a persistent felon walking these streets with a loaded weapon with one bad decision, it\u2019s sad,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd it\u2019s just the reality of where we are now, and that mindset, I think that is what empowers a guy like this.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rivera\u2019s acquittal of first-degree murder \u2014 which carried a sentence of life without chance of parole \u2014 had outraged Diller\u2019s family and their supporters.<\/p>\n

Jonathan Diller was fatally shot in 2024 during a traffic stop.<\/p>\n

Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch called the jury verdict \u201ca gut punch to all members of the NYPD,\u201d\u00a0 while the department\u2019s union said the hero cop\u2019s family was \u201cdevastated.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe decision at least gives Jonathan and his family some justice,\u201d\u00a0Police Benevolent Association President Patrick Hendry had said about the verdict. \u201cBut it doesn\u2019t give them full closure. The pain will never go away.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hendry slammed Rivera\u2019s lawyer following Monday\u2019s sentencing.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s make no mistake, despite what the defense said this is a murderer,\u201d the union boss told reporters. \u201cHe should never walk the streets again \u2014 and he won\u2019t.
