The Victorian Supreme Court has released footage of the moment underworld figure Gavin Preston was shot dead in Melbourne.<\/p>\n

Preston was gunned down on September 9, 2023 at the Sweet Lulu’s cafe in Keilor.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors allege it was a contract killing carried out by New South Wales men Jaeden Tito and Rabii Zahabe<\/a>, who have pleaded not guilty to murder.<\/p>\n

Lawyers for the men have told the Supreme Court jury that their clients were not the shooters.<\/p>\n

Over the last three weeks the jury has been shown dozens of evidentiary photos and videos.<\/p>\n

The newly released video shows Preston parking his car and attending the Brimbank Aquatic and Wellness Centre in Keilor Downs on the morning of September 9.<\/p>\n

About an hour later, he is recorded near Sweet Lulu’s with friend AJ Maghnie. The pair agreed to meet at the cafe for breakfast.<\/p>\n

Preston, a well-known underworld figure, was a regular at the cafe and always sat inside, the trial heard. However on this day, the cafe was full and he and Maghnie took up a table outside<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The pair order drinks and can be seen chatting, before a dark-coloured Audi SUV pulls up and two masked assassins get out.<\/p>\n

The shooters charge towards Preston and open fire, killing him with seven bullets. Maghnie appears to get a glimpse at the shooters and tries to run, but also sustains a gunshot wound to the abdomen.<\/p>\n

After the shooting there is chaos at the cafe as patrons scramble for safety, while the killers jump back in their car and speed off.<\/p>\n

Footage from a nearby street shows two men dump the SUV used for the initial getaway, with one torching the vehicle and accidentally setting his arm on fire.<\/p>\n

Police allege they used two other getaway cars, planted nearby, before being chauffeured to Sydney, having booked the ride in advance.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors allege DNA belonging to Mr Tito and Mr Zahabe was found in the dumped getaway cars and on items inside.<\/p>\n

On Monday, the trial heard Preston had enemies in the underworld who may have had motives to order his death<\/a>.<\/p>\n
