Tributes and new ways to honor fallen Officer John Bartholomew are pouring in.<\/p>\n
“Anything we can do to help ease the financial burden and help out the community, that’s what we love to do,” Brendan O’Brein, owner of Reilly’s Daughter Irish Pub in Oak Lawn, said.<\/p>\n
Reilly’s Daughter Irish Pub is stepping up once again, selling T-shirts this Friday with a tribute to Officer Bartholomew on the back.<\/p>\n
All the funds raised, the owner said, will go directly to his family.<\/p>\n
“A lot of my friends, family, members, etc. are Chicago cops, fireman, and city workers,” O’Brien said. “My grandfather was a battalion chief of the Chicago Fire Department. My uncle was a lieutenant, a lot of my uncles are Chicago police…It’s just something you do to help out with your community and help out first responders and other families.”<\/p>\n
This isn’t the first time O’Brien’s done this.<\/p>\n
The bar also raised several thousand dollars for fallen firefighter Michael Altman’s family earlier this year when he too was killed in the line of duty.<\/p>\n
“Unfortunately, when we have to do this, we’ve probably done this 15 plus times for officers over the years and fireman over the years,” O’Brien said. “We’ve done it repeatedly. When we have to make a shirt it’s not a good thing.”<\/p>\n
People in the community are doing what they can to support first responders.<\/p>\n
“It’s a really hard job,” O’Brien said. “The men and women of the city of Chicago and the first responders. My heart goes out to them, and I just really hope that we can do our best to raise as much money as we can for his family.”<\/p>\n
If you want to support this effort, you can purchase a T-shirt in person at Reilly’s Daughter in Oak Lawn at 6 p.m. on Friday.<\/p>\n
Afterwards, they will transition to online sales so people can continue supporting the cause that way.<\/p>\n

As the city mourns the death of Officer Bartholomew, his partner remains in critical condition. Sources said the partner is fighting for their life.<\/p>\n
The Chicago Police Department and city leaders continue to ask for prayers for the 57-year-old officer, who survived Saturday’s shooting and is still being treated here at the hospital.<\/p>\n
The officer is a 21-year CPD veteran and was shot alongside his partner.<\/p>\n
Prosecutors said the suspect, Alphanso Talley, shot Bartholomew in the head.<\/p>\n
The second officer, whose name has not been shared yet, was shot in the face.<\/p>\n
Officer Carlos Yanez Jr. who was also shot in the face during a shooting that took the life of his partner CPD Officer Ella French back in 2021.<\/p>\n
He said he’s hopeful this officer, too, will make a full recovery, like he did.<\/p>\n
“I hope that he makes a miraculous recovery and is with us and stays with us,” Yanez said. “And for the families, just be strong right now. I know what they’re going through. I just… we gotta pray. You’ve all prayed for me, so please pray for the families.”<\/p>\n
Bunting now hangs at CPD headquarters as well as the 17th District – where both officers were based.<\/p>\n
Chicago Police Superintendent Larry Snelling sharing a statement that reads in part, “This shooting was a stark and heartbreaking reminder of the dangers our officers face all too often on this job. I encourage every Chicagoan to join us in supporting our officers and their families in these difficult days ahead.”<\/p>\n
