What is May Day?<\/p>\n
May Day, which also goes by International Workers\u2019 Day, honors workers and the labor movement’s history.<\/p>\n
Some protests call for no school or work on the day, which falls on a Friday this year.<\/p>\n
May Day protests in NYC<\/p>\n
There are multiple demonstrations taking place across the city on Friday, May 1 to honor the holiday.<\/p>\n
A protest, backed by multiple grassroots organizations including The People’s Forum NYC, is taking place in Union Square at 2 p.m. that day, and tells demonstrators: no school, no work, no shopping.<\/p>\n
“On International Workers\u2019 Day, millions around the world will take the streets. In New York, we\u2019re joining cities and towns across the U.S. to stand together \u2014 against war, against deportations, and against Trump\u2019s billionaire agenda stealing our future,” the organization posted on Instagram<\/a>.<\/p>\n The demonstration will then move down to Washington Square Park, where protestors will meet up with another rally beginning at 4 p.m.<\/p>\n We Will Not Be Silent: May Day Rally & March, hosted<\/a> by New York City Central Labor Council and others, will meet at Washington Square Park then move its way down to Foley Square.<\/p>\n This article originally appeared on USA TODAY: Where are there NYC protests for May Day?
