(M3) has emerged from stealth and announced a partnership with Samsung Heavy Industries \u201cto jointly develop and deliver institutional-grade floating data center projects worldwide.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>M3\u2014a developer of \u201cfloating\u201d and water-adjacent data center infrastructure\u2014said that it will lead \u201cdevelopment, site origination, tenant sourcing, and project delivery\u201d on the joint project.<\/p>\n<p>M3 is headquartered in Dallas, according to a company statement, with leadership that includes the team behind the world\u2019s first operational floating data center, as well as \u201csenior executives drawn from data center operations, infrastructure policy, and capital markets.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Putting data centers on barges to speed development of AI compute capacity<\/p>\n<p>Writing on LinkedIn, M3 CEO Min Suh said his company was launching\u00a0 \u201cafter working quietly in stealth for the last year.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re building fully liquid-cooled floating and water-adjacent data centers\u2014deploying directly alongside existing power generation\u2014to bypass the 5+ year interconnection queues that are bottlenecking AI infrastructure today here in the U.S,\u201d Suh wrote in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/feed\/update\/urn:li:activity:7452744933813383171\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">post<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost of the industry is racing to build new power,\u201d he added. \u201cWe took a different angle. An enormous amount of baseload generation already exists\u2014particularly at water-cooled thermal plants\u2014that sits underutilized, curtailed, or stranded behind grid constraints. Activating what\u2019s already there is faster, cleaner, and more capital-efficient than greenfield build.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>By deploying compute \u201con barges adjacent to these assets,\u201d Suh said M3 and SHI can compress development timelines \u201cfrom years to quarters\u201d and turn on data hall capacity that\u2019s needed today.<\/p>\n<p>Partnering with one of the world\u2019s largest shipbuilders<\/p>\n<p>Founded in 1974 and with a U.S. office in Houston, Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) is one of the world\u2019s largest shipbuilders and a leader in offshore and maritime engineering.
