{"id":760055,"date":"2026-04-28T23:41:21","date_gmt":"2026-04-28T23:41:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/760055\/"},"modified":"2026-04-28T23:41:21","modified_gmt":"2026-04-28T23:41:21","slug":"phoenix-area-community-colleges-keep-tuition-unchanged","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/760055\/","title":{"rendered":"Phoenix-area community colleges keep tuition unchanged"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text text-start\"><b>PHOENIX (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.maricopa.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.maricopa.edu\/\">Maricopa Community Colleges<\/a> decided not to raise tuition for the 2026-27 school year, officials announced Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">It\u2019s the fourth consecutive year the college system has not raised tuition for students.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cToday\u2019s students already face higher costs for transportation, groceries, utilities, and other necessities,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.maricopa.edu\/about\/chancellor\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.maricopa.edu\/about\/chancellor\">Maricopa Community Colleges Chancellor Steven R. Gonzales<\/a> said in an email. \u201cIt\u2019s up to us to keep tuition low, and by doing so, we\u2019re ensuring that higher education remains affordable and accessible to all learners.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Officials said they asked students how a tuition increase would impact them, and, according to the survey, many said even a small $8 raise would make it hard for them to stay in school.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">A $5 increase would be \u201cmanageable for many, but would strain some students,\u201d according to the survey.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cThe Governing Board\u2019s decision reflects a careful balance between fiscal responsibility and our commitment to student access,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.maricopa.edu\/about\/governing-board\/at-large-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.maricopa.edu\/about\/governing-board\/at-large-2\">Maricopa Community Colleges Governing Board President Linda Thor<\/a> said in a statement. \u201cMaricopa Community Colleges play a vital role in Arizona\u2019s economic strength and in preparing the workforce that supports our state\u2019s continued growth.
