{"id":76052,"date":"2025-07-19T18:43:17","date_gmt":"2025-07-19T18:43:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/76052\/"},"modified":"2025-07-19T18:43:17","modified_gmt":"2025-07-19T18:43:17","slug":"sam-querrey-and-john-isner-agree-who-would-win-if-jannik-sinner-faced-the-wimbledon-doubles-champions-in-a-match","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/76052\/","title":{"rendered":"Sam Querrey and John Isner agree who would win if Jannik Sinner faced the Wimbledon doubles champions in a match"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Jannik Sinner headlined the honour roll of Wimbledon champions from this year. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/former-top-10-wta-player-explains-why-she-really-wanted-jannik-sinner-to-beat-carlos-alcaraz-in-the-wimbledon-final\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sinner beat Carlos Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final<\/a>, enacting revenge from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/french-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Roland Garros<\/a> where he had three championship points.<\/p>\n<p>The other singles tournament at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/wimbledon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wimbledon<\/a> was won by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/what-iga-swiatek-did-just-as-well-as-serena-williams-at-wimbledon-this-year-according-to-top-tennis-coach\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Iga Swiatek, who thrashed Amanda Anisimova<\/a> in her final.<\/p>\n<p>While the two singles champions took most of the headlines, there was also history made in the doubles events.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"743\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/GettyImages-2224785007-1024x743.jpg\" alt=\"Julian Cash of Great Britain celebrates with his Gentlemen's Doubles Trophy as team mate Lloyd Glasspool of Great Britain looks on following victory against Rinky Hijikata of Australia and David Pel of Netherlands in the Gentlemen's Doubles Final on day thirteen of The Championships Wimbledon 2025 at All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.\" \/>Photo by Visionhaus via Getty ImagesSam Querrey and John Isner believe Jannik Sinner could beat Wimbledon doubles champions <\/p>\n<p>Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool became the first all-British team to win the Wimbledon men\u2019s doubles title in 89 years.<\/p>\n<p>When comparing the two respective champions on the Nothing Major Podcast, former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/atp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ATP<\/a> players <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/steve-johnson\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Steve Johnson<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/john-isner\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">John Isner<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/sam-querrey\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sam Querrey<\/a> discussed whether they thought <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/jannik-sinner\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sinner<\/a> could beat Cash and Glasspool on his own.<\/p>\n<p>While Johnson dismissed the idea, Isner and Querrey both agreed that Sinner had what it takes to beat the Wimbledon doubles champions.<\/p>\n<p>Johnson: \u201cI think the doubles guys get them. There is too much coverage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Isner: \u201cSinner wins.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Querrey: \u201cI think Sinner wins too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Johnson: \u201cThere is no way. I get there is a big difference [in ability] but they are just going to cover the court.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Querrey: \u201cThey have never seen this level before! I\u2019m taking Sinner.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Isner: \u201cPrime Bob and Mike Bryan I am taking them, but Lloyd Glasspool and Cash, I\u2019m taking Sinner!\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>When did Jannik Sinner last play in doubles?<\/p>\n<p>While he is not known for his doubles prowess, Sinner did win an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/atp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ATP<\/a> title at the Atlanta Open in 2021 with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/reilly-opelka-again-hits-out-at-delusional-doubles-players-and-says-if-any-of-them-have-confronted-him-after-his-controversial-comments\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reilly Opelka, who has been very outspoken against doubles<\/a> this year.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/GettyImages-1234395819-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Jannik Sinner of Italy and Reilly Opelka of the United States pose for photos with the winners trophy after the pair won the doubles final match against Steve Johnson of the United States and Jordan Thompson of Australia at the Truist Atlanta Open.\" \/>Photo by Casey Sykes\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Sinner\u2019s appearances in doubles have been more fleeting since, with the four-time Grand Slam champion only playing once in that format since.<\/p>\n<p>That appearance came just last month at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/halle-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Halle Open<\/a>, when Sinner partnered his compatriot Lorenzo Sonego.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/jannik-sinner-sends-message-to-fans-on-social-media-after-his-surprise-second-round-defeat-to-alexander-bublik-in-halle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sinner lost to Alexander Bublik<\/a> to suffer an early singles exit from the Halle Open, and it was not much different in doubles either.<\/p>\n<p>Playing against another scratch singles pairing of Karen Khachanov and Alex Michelsen in their first round match, Sinner and Sonego lost, 2-6 7-5 10-3, despite leading by a set and a break.<\/p>\n<p>The next confirmed doubles appearance for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/emma-navarro-jokes-why-she-is-getting-worried-about-jannik-sinner-ahead-of-playing-with-him-at-the-us-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sinner will be alongside Emma Navarro<\/a> for the revamped <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/us-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">US Open<\/a> mixed doubles event.<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Jannik Sinner headlined the honour roll of Wimbledon champions from this year.
