From the same folks who bring Deck The Chair to Jacksonville Beach every holiday season comes Deck The Bins art contest. <\/p>\n
JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. \u2014 It’s not just for the holiday season; the folks who put on the wildly popular\u00a0Deck The Chairs event in Jacksonville Beach<\/a>\u00a0each year are working to engage the community in the arts year-round.\u00a0<\/p>\n Students in the Arts Alliance, the non-profit that organizes Deck The Chairs, are hosting Deck the Bins. It’s a student art contest that will put the winners’ submissions on the wooden trash bins around Jacksonville Beach. There’s also a $100 prize that comes with the honor of getting their art chosen to adorn one of the many trash cans around the beaches.\u00a0<\/p>\n “Deck the Bins is a powerful example of how student art can shape and energize our public spaces,” said Kurtis Loftus, the executive director of SITAA and the creator of Deck The Chairs.\u00a0<\/p>\n He says it gives the students a public platform for their artwork and is a year-round way for their non-profit to beautify the beaches and inject art into the community.\u00a0<\/p>\n There will be 72 winning designs chosen from students across Northeast Florida, and any student aged 8 to 18 is welcome to submit.
