{"id":76435,"date":"2025-07-19T22:14:17","date_gmt":"2025-07-19T22:14:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/76435\/"},"modified":"2025-07-19T22:14:17","modified_gmt":"2025-07-19T22:14:17","slug":"woman-undergoes-double-lung-transplant-at-phoenix-hospital","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/76435\/","title":{"rendered":"Woman undergoes double lung transplant at Phoenix hospital"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PHOENIX \u2014 A 41-year-old woman underwent a successful double lung transplant last fall in Phoenix and is singing once again following a decade-long battle with an autoimmune disease.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI felt like I was stripped of my identity,\u201d Ali Briskey said in a Friday press release. \u201cBut with time, I\u2019ve been able to slowly build up the strength to get back to the things I love to do, and hope to be able to hike and swim soon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Briskey had the surgery done at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dignityhealth.org\/arizona\/locations\/stjosephs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dignity Health St. Joseph\u2019s<\/a> Norton Thoracic Institute only three days after being listed as a candidate, according to the press release.<\/p>\n<p>Events leading to double lung transplant<\/p>\n<p>Back in November 2023, Briskey was pregnant with her second child but her bout with scleroderma, or a disease that causes tightening of skin and connective tissues, evolved into \u201cinterstitial lung disease.\u201d According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/diseases-conditions\/scleroderma\/symptoms-causes\/syc-20351952\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mayo Clinic<\/a>, scleroderma can affect the heart and lungs. In Briskey\u2019s case, she endured \u201ca buildup of scar tissue in (her) lungs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The birth of her child was without complication, but by September of 2024 Briskey required \u201c10 liters\u201d of oxygen at home.<\/p>\n<p>After coming down with pneumonia, she was hospitalized at Dignity Health St. Joseph\u2019s. It was there that Briskey was evaluated and approved as a transplant candidate.<\/p>\n<p>Her singing voice was once only heard by her oldest son, but now her youngest can listen to it at full strength.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt brings me so much joy,\u201d Briskey said. \u201cWe sing a goodnight song as a family every night.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"twitter-follow-button\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/pwmoses11\" data-show-count=\"false\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Follow @pwmoses11<\/a><\/p>\n<p>We want to hear from you.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0px;\">Have a story idea or tip?
