She reflected on how she wanted a mutual and loving relationship and said her feelings toward the unnamed person were creating inner conflict for her.<\/p>\n<p>After describing fears of rejection, unworthiness and being a \u201c&#8217;bad&#8217; person,\u201d she appealed for God&#8217;s guidance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know that I was struggling with some of the decisions I was making that were different than what I was raised with,\u201d Mann explained in court, adding that there was \u201ca lot going on at this time in my life.&#8221; She emphasized what she had written about seeking freedom: \u201cI was feeling very controlled.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Through questions, Weinstein attorney\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/sean-combs-diddy-trial-cassie-jane-b9ee72ebd9a8ac9bd18644759348b4f3\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Teny Geragos<\/a>\u00a0suggested that the note reflected Mann&#8217;s conflicted feelings about being involved with the then-married Weinstein. Mann\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/harvey-weinstein-rape-retrial-jessica-mann-metoo-71a4cf7188a36900d8dbbd4844adc6b9\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">has acknowledged<\/a>\u00a0the two had a consensual, on-again-off-again sexual relationship but alleges it descended into rape.<\/p>\n<p>Weinstein\u2019s lawyers maintain that everything that happened between the two was consensual and part of a supportive, caring relationship. They say Mann benefited from associating with an Oscar-winning producer, only later accusing him after allegations about him\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/diddy-metoo-implications-tarana-burke-e45f80962e1a1285394d448aa212601b\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">powered the #MeToo movement<\/a>\u00a0against sexual misconduct. He denies ever sexually assaulting anyone.<\/p>\n<p>The first several hours of back-and-forth were tense but didn&#8217;t hit the emotional boiling points of Mann&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/us-news-ap-top-news-harvey-weinstein-new-york-city-ca-state-wire-0fc0cc2d04583e62aac2548d18463b3f\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">prior cross-examinations<\/a>. By midafternoon Thursday, as she began to answer questions about the leadup to the alleged rape, Mann, 40, said she was feeling \u201cspacey\u201d from the stress of testifying. The court quickly took a break.<\/p>\n<p>Geragos began questioning Mann on Wednesday by seizing on her complicated feelings about Weinstein.<\/p>\n<p>Mann had said earlier that despite the alleged rape, she loved \u201ca part of him\u201d because he could be kind and encouraging about her personal struggles and professional dreams, and that the two had \u201csome pretty human moments\u201d together.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat did he do for you that made parts of you really love him?\u201d Geragos asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was the validation,\u201d Mann said.<\/p>\n<p>When Geragos went on to ask about the \u201chuman moments,&#8221; Mann said she once slapped Weinstein, thinking he was inviting it as sex play, but that he later told her, \u201cJess, that&#8217;s not you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo when you were talking about the validation that you received \u2026 and the human moments that you shared with Harvey, it was that you slapped him?\u201d Geragos asked.<\/p>\n<p>Mann said she instead was referring to his remark that \u201cthat&#8217;s not you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Court ended for the day soon afterward. As it resumed Thursday, Geragos quizzed Mann about her early interactions with Weinstein.<\/p>\n<p>Mann and Weinstein met at a Los Angeles-area party around early 2013. At the time, she was a financially struggling hairstylist and actor aspiring to make it big in show business.<\/p>\n<p>The then-married Weinstein invited her to a bookstore, where he bought her volumes about movies. Not long afterward, he took her to dinner at a hotel in Beverly Hills, and other get-togethers followed.<\/p>\n<p>Mann acknowledges that she accepted his sexual advances at times and decided to pursue a relationship with him. But she said he raped her in March 2013 in Manhattan \u2014 and then again some months later in Beverly Hills, California \u2014 as she protested and pleaded with him to stop.
