{"id":765011,"date":"2026-05-01T02:58:13","date_gmt":"2026-05-01T02:58:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/765011\/"},"modified":"2026-05-01T02:58:13","modified_gmt":"2026-05-01T02:58:13","slug":"6-are-injured-in-stabbing-at-a-high-school-in-washington-state","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/765011\/","title":{"rendered":"6 Are Injured in Stabbing at a High School in Washington State"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"css-ac37hb evys1bk0\">Five students and a security guard were injured in a stabbing on Thursday afternoon at a high school in Tacoma, Wash., in what the authorities said arose from an \u201caltercation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-ac37hb evys1bk0\">The authorities responded just after 1:30 p.m. to a report of an \u201cactive assault\u201d at Foss High School, the Tacoma Fire Department said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-ac37hb evys1bk0\">Four students were hospitalized with \u201creported stab wounds,\u201d according to Chelsea Sheperd, a spokeswoman for the Fire Department.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-ac37hb evys1bk0\">Officer Shelbie Boyd, a spokeswoman for the Tacoma Police Department, said that a security guard and another student, whom she described as a \u201csuspect,\u201d were also injured and taken to a hospital. The suspect was also taken into custody, she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-ac37hb evys1bk0\">All of those injured were in stable condition as of 4 p.m. local time, the Fire Department <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TacomaFire\/status\/2049986753248075878?s=20\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-ac37hb evys1bk0\">Officer Boyd said the stabbing had happened \u201con the campus\u201d of the school. It was not immediately clear whether it happened inside or outside the building. Firefighters arrived to find one injured person outside the school and then went in to treat other people who were injured, Ms. Sheperd said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-ac37hb evys1bk0\">MultiCare Tacoma General Hospital and MultiCare Allenmore Hospital received patients related to the stabbing, according to Scott Thompson, a spokesman for Multicare. Mr. Thompson declined to comment on the conditions of those patients.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-ac37hb evys1bk0\">A spokeswoman for Foss High School said that the school was in lockdown and that parents would have received a notification if their child was involved in the episode.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-ac37hb evys1bk0\">Parents were able to come to the school to pick up their children, Ms. Sheperd said. Students were dismissed at 2:45 p.m., and school on Friday was canceled, the Tacoma Police Department said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-ac37hb evys1bk0\">Tacoma Public Schools did not immediately respond to requests for comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-ac37hb evys1bk0\">In January 2007, 17-year-old student, Samnang Kok, <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2007\/01\/04\/us\/04tacoma.html\" title=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">was shot and killed<\/a> in a hallway at Foss High School.
