{"id":765109,"date":"2026-05-01T03:58:13","date_gmt":"2026-05-01T03:58:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/765109\/"},"modified":"2026-05-01T03:58:13","modified_gmt":"2026-05-01T03:58:13","slug":"millions-owed-to-city-of-san-antonio-in-unpaid-citations-some-dating-back-to-2000","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/765109\/","title":{"rendered":"Millions owed to City of San Antonio in unpaid citations, some dating back to 2000"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><strong>SAN ANTONIO<\/strong> \u2013 More than $87 million dollars is owed to the City of San Antonio in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/news\/local\/2026\/04\/03\/san-antonio-seeking-payment-for-decade-old-civil-citations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/news\/local\/2026\/04\/03\/san-antonio-seeking-payment-for-decade-old-civil-citations\/\">unpaid citations<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The oldest unpaid citation is from Feb. 23, 2000, and the most recent in the numbers KSAT received from the City of San Antonio is from Jan. 27, 2026.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 kDvXdO font_openSans articleList\">\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\">\n<p>$25.2 million is owed in unpaid criminal violations.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\">\n<p>$20.6 million is owed in unpaid civil code violations.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\">\n<p>$41.8 million is owed in unpaid parking violations.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">In August 2025, the city entered a partnership with the law firm Linebarger, Goggan, Blair &amp; Sampson, LLP, to recoup the money from these unpaid citations. Since then, the firm has sent demand letters to the people they believe are responsible for the unpaid citations. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">However, KSAT has interviewed several people who said they did not own the vehicles at the time they received the citation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The City of San Antonio is not currently in a budget deficit, according to a statement from the city.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cRevenue generated from citation fees go to the City\u2019s General Fund,\u201d a spokesperson for the city said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">A spokesperson for the city also said, \u201cby law, the law firm is authorized to collect a 30% delinquent fee, which is added to the original citation amount.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">This means that 30% fee gets passed on to the person required to pay the past-due citation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cFor parking violations specifically, the law firm sent 41,989 letters between January and February 2026, with additional notices sent in March 2026,\u201d a city spokesperson told KSAT.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">While many people have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/news\/local\/2026\/04\/10\/no-way-im-paying-homeowners-respond-to-law-firms-demand-for-overdue-citation-payments\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/news\/local\/2026\/04\/10\/no-way-im-paying-homeowners-respond-to-law-firms-demand-for-overdue-citation-payments\/\">received these demands to pay past-due citations by mail<\/a>, the city said people can search for any outstanding citations at the San Antonio <a href=\"https:\/\/6.municipal.cc\/sanantoniocosatx\/citationwebportal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/6.municipal.cc\/sanantoniocosatx\/citationwebportal\/\">Municipal Court Citation Portal<\/a> using their personal information including name, date of birth and driver\u2019s license number.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">If a person cannot afford to pay the overdue citation, or if a person believes the demand was sent to the wrong address, people can go to Municipal Court from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday at 401 S.
