This already represents a career-best week for the 21-year-old Belgian, who is beginning to make a name for himself on Tour after a runner-up finish at the Next Gen Finals last year. He has never yet reached a final at the ATP Tour level, and to make a Masters his first would be a stunning accomplishment. Can he upset Zverev to do it? Let’s break down the match.

ATP Madrid Semifinal Prediction
Alexander Zverev vs Alexander Blockx

Blockx has pulled off upset after upset this year, playing a brilliant brand of clay-court tennis. He has raw firepower when needed, but is crafting points beautifully, even against elite competition. The competition level steps up now, though, as Alexander Zverev is playing like his best self again.

The German looks in tremendous form right now. He wasn’t perfect in his opening match at this event, but since then he has looked elite. He is booming serves and playing powerful baseline tennis. If he keeps that up, he will be striking the ball on a level that Blockx has just never seen before.

Blockx has beaten several strong clay-courters this event, but all of them play a pretty classical clay-court style. Some (like Felix Auger-Aliassime) have more raw power than others, but all construct points and find openings. Blockx has found a way to take advantage of that consistently all tournament. Zverev is a different animal, though. He was overwhelming power, both from the service line and the baseline. It’s going to be quite a shock for Blockx, as he tries to find a way to win points against someone who will hit the ball harder and cleaner than he’s ever seen at this level.
Prediction: Zverev in 2

Main Photo Credit: Susan Mullane-USA TODAY Sports

It’s a battle of Alexanders in the second semifinal at the ATP Masters in Madrid, as Alexander Zverev…

[48
173112,173113,3098,21406,306894,306862,62,1464,1474,1475,67,132,68
0":"post-765281","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-tennis","8":"tag-alexander-blockx","9":"tag-alexander-blockx-predictions","10":"tag-alexander-zverev","11":"tag-alexander-zverev-predictions","12":"tag-atp-madrid-predictions","13":"tag-mutua-madrid-open-predictions","14":"tag-sports","15":"tag-tennis","16":"tag-tennis-picks","17":"tag-tennis-predictions","18":"tag-united-states","19":"tag-unitedstates","20":"tag-us
["GET
