A 32-year-old man who admitted to killing his father in Perth’s north has been found not guilty of murder on grounds of insanity.<\/p>\n

David Nadi Lamie Moussa was on trial after he repeatedly stabbed his 72-year-old father, and injured his 52-year-old stepmother when she tried to disarm him, at their Clarkson home in February last year.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He had pleaded not guilty on the grounds of insanity to one count of murder and one count of grievous bodily harm.<\/p>\n

In the Supreme Court on Friday, Judge Terence Palmer concluded Mr Moussa did intend to kill his father, Nadi Moussa, as a result of a delusion caused by his psychosis.<\/p>\n

But he found him not guilty of the charge of murder.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He was also found not guilty of endangering the life, health and safety of his stepmother.<\/p>\n

Experiencing psychosis<\/p>\n

Earlier this week, psychiatrist Adam Brett told the court that Mr Moussa could have been experiencing psychosis from a “combination of medication and stress” and that he believed that killing his father was morally right.<\/p>\n

Prosecutor Kim Jennings had told the court that Mr Moussa stabbed his father with a Japanese kitchen knife outside his home after he drove from Queensland, where he was living at the time, to Western Australia.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The court heard that Mr Moussa believed his father had abused him as part of a secret research project.<\/p>\n

Mr Moussa was taking dexamphetamine to treat ADHD, and medicinal marijuana, the court heard, which he allegedly obtained online to treat Crohn’s disease.<\/p>\n

‘No evidence of abuse’<\/p>\n

The court was shown video footage from a neighbour’s camera and heard the recording of the Triple Zero call Mr Moussa made after attacking his father.<\/p>\n

On the call, Mr Moussa could be heard telling the operator: “I killed my father.”<\/p>\n

When the operator asked Mr Moussa why he did that, he said: “I remembered things he did to me when I was young.”<\/p>\n

In his evidence, psychiatrist Dr Brett said he believed Mr Moussa had been unwell for at least six months in the lead-up to his father’s killing.<\/p>\n

Dr Brett said Mr Moussa had been experiencing consistent delusions about his father and that he believed those delusions to be true.<\/p>\n

But after further enquiry, Mr Brett confirmed Mr Moussa “had a normal childhood” and there was “no evidence of abuse”.<\/p>\n

The court heard that before the incident, Mr Moussa took his half-sister, who was aged six, outside the house.<\/p>\n

He told police he did that because he did not want her to witness what he was about to do.<\/p>\n

Mr Moussa then returned to the living room, where his father and stepmother were, and told them he wanted to kill them.<\/p>\n

When the father walked away to see where his daughter was, Mr Moussa followed him and stabbed him twice.<\/p>\n

The court heard that the father told his daughter to run before hiding behind his car, where Mr Moussa stabbed him several times.<\/p>\n

He then called the emergency services.<\/p>\n
