The company has used a similar approach with other investments. In 2017, Match took an early minority position in Hinge, followed by an acquisition in late 2018,<\/p>\n<p>The investment in Sniffies \u201cunderscores [a] strong conviction in one of the category\u2019s largest segments,\u201d\u00a0 the company said in the news release out of Los Angeles, where Match has an executive hub.<\/p>\n<p>A 20-million-messages-a-day platform<\/p>\n<p>Sniffies has grown to an estimated 3 million monthly active users globally, with more than 20 million messages sent daily, according to Match. Its real-time, map-based experience \u201coffers a more dynamic way for men to discover and connect with other men, reflecting evolving user behavior and a growing demand for more flexible, low-pressure interactions,\u201d the company said.<\/p>\n<p>The platform GBTQ men will continue to operate independently and remain founder-led, with Match Group supporting its growth and vision. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom the first time I met the Sniffies team a year ago, it was clear they had a deep understanding of their users and a strong point of view on how its community actually connects\u2014in a way that\u2019s honest and unapologetic,\u201d Spencer Rascoff, CEO of Match Group, said in the announcement.<\/p>\n<p>Rascoff added that there is \u201cclear and growing demand in this space\u201d and that Sniffies feels \u201cgenuinely different and authentic to its audience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Blake Gallagher, founder and CEO of Sniffies, said the investment \u201callows us to keep building for our community while staying true to what makes Sniffies unique.\u201d Gallagher said Match Group\u2019s support will help the company \u201cmove faster on improving the product and expanding our network, while continuing to invest in trust and safety.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A Hinge-style bet in a shifting dating market<\/p>\n<p>The investment comes as the company \u201chas been attempting a turnaround in recent times, reworking core features across its lineup to reduce negative experiences and focus on user experience as younger users grow more selective with dating apps,\u201d according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/technology\/match-group-invests-100-million-grindr-rival-sniffies-with-buyout-option-2026-04-27\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Reuters<\/a>, whose headline on the deal called Sniffies a \u201cGrindr rival.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dating apps face \u201cintensifying competition, with many now betting that AI-powered features can help them adapt to shifting user preferences and improve matchmaking,\u201d Reuters reported.<\/p>\n<p>In LGBTQ+ dating apps last year, Grindr \u201cended talks on a $3.46 billion take-private deal by its two largest shareholders, due to uncertainty over financing,\u201d according to Reuters.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t miss what\u2019s next.
