{"id":766759,"date":"2026-05-01T21:46:15","date_gmt":"2026-05-01T21:46:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/766759\/"},"modified":"2026-05-01T21:46:15","modified_gmt":"2026-05-01T21:46:15","slug":"human-remains-found-in-tampa-bay-are-identified-as-missing-grad-student","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/766759\/","title":{"rendered":"Human Remains Found in Tampa Bay Are Identified as Missing Grad Student"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"css-ac37hb evys1bk0\">Human remains that were found in the waters of Tampa Bay this week have been identified as those of one of two University of South Florida graduate students who were reported missing last month, officials said Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-ac37hb evys1bk0\">The Hillsborough County sheriff, Chad Chronister, said at <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/live\/ZoNuw22_UVc\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">a news conference<\/a> on Friday that DNA testing had confirmed that a body that was <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/04\/27\/us\/human-remains-usf-student-tampa-bay.html\" title=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">found on Sunday<\/a> in a black trash bag in a mangrove was that of Nahida Bristy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-ac37hb evys1bk0\">Ms. Bristy and Zamil Limon, both of whom were 27 and doctoral students at the university, were last seen on April 16.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-ac37hb evys1bk0\">Mr. Limon\u2019s body <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/04\/24\/us\/usf-students-missing-body-found.html\" title=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">was found last week<\/a> in a trash bag on the Howard Frankland Bridge in Tampa, about 20 miles southwest of his home near the university\u2019s campus, the authorities said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-ac37hb evys1bk0\">\u201cWhat began as a missing persons case ended with the discovery of a monstrous crime,\u201d Sheriff Chronister said on Friday. \u201cOur community has been left heartbroken.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-ac37hb evys1bk0\">Mr. Limon\u2019s roommate, Hisham Abugharbieh, 26, a former student at the university, was arrested on April 24 and <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.teamhcso.com\/News\/PressRelease\/bf0589a6-ba0a-4511-9ae2-904b1e8dab1d\/en-US\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">charged<\/a> with two counts of first-degree murder.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-ac37hb evys1bk0\">Mr. Abugharbieh was also charged with unlawfully holding or moving a dead body, failure to report a death, tampering with evidence, false imprisonment and battery.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-ac37hb evys1bk0\">Ms. Bristy lived on the university\u2019s campus but not with Mr. Limon and Mr. Abugharbieh. Both Mr. Limon and Ms. Bristy were from Bangladesh.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-ac37hb evys1bk0\">A motive is still unclear, Sheriff Chronister said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-ac37hb evys1bk0\">When detectives began investigating the missing persons\u2019 report, one of their first stops was a dumpster outside the building where Mr. Limon and Mr. Abugharbieh shared an apartment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-ac37hb evys1bk0\">They found Mr. Limon\u2019s glasses, student ID, wallet and clothes, \u201cwhich were extremely bloodied at the time,\u201d Sheriff Chronister said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-ac37hb evys1bk0\">Investigators also searched Mr. Abugharbieh\u2019s car and found evidence of blood, which was later identified as Ms. Bristy\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-ac37hb evys1bk0\">After executing a search warrant at the apartment that Mr. Abugharbieh and Mr. Limon shared, investigators found evidence of a large pool of blood in the kitchen area that extended into the suspect\u2019s bedroom, Sheriff Chronister said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-ac37hb evys1bk0\">Mr. Abugharbieh\u2019s phone had been recently wiped clean, but the sheriff said that a forensic analysis revealed a search history in the days before the victims were reported missing that included prompts like \u201ccan a knife penetrate a skull?\u201d and \u201ccan a neighbor hear a gunshot?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-ac37hb evys1bk0\">Mr. Abugharbieh also had recently purchased large, heavy-duty contractor bags, duct tape and cleaning spray. \u201cThis was calculated,\u201d Sheriff Chronister said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-ac37hb evys1bk0\">Investigators believe Mr. Limon and Ms. Bristy were both killed inside the apartment.
