If a restaurant or bar has closed in your neighborhood, let us know at ny@eater.com.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph n2hx75i _1knl15h1 _1knl15h0 cej01i1\"><strong>Financial District:<\/strong> It\u2019s the end of a physical storefront era for <a href=\"https:\/\/go.skimresources.com\/?id=1025X1701644&amp;xs=1&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fmahzedahrbakery.com%2F%3Fsrsltid%3DAfmBOoq-9XgWbjPMXSNeEd2R8Qwk_ieYlL-P6pJSOkQ6xr0VdQpSoDEi\" rel=\"sponsored nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Mah-Ze-Dahr<\/strong><\/a>, the once-celebrated NYC bakery that counted Oprah and Top Chef judge Tom Colicchio as early fans. Its last-remaining storefront at Brookfield Place, <a href=\"https:\/\/ny.eater.com\/2022\/11\/3\/23427303\/nyc-restaurant-openings-november-2022\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">opened<\/a> in 2022, closed on Thursday, April 30, per a captured Instagram story, which adds that the team is \u201cbeyond excited for our next venture to be announced momentarily.\u201d Mah-Ze-Dahr caused a stir in May 2025, leaving its custom cake customers high and dry after <a href=\"https:\/\/ny.eater.com\/2025\/5\/13\/24428624\/mah-ze-dahr-closed-west-village-bakery-eviction-reopening\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">being evicted from its nearly decade-old West Village flagship<\/a>. Mah-Ze-Dahr<a href=\"https:\/\/dc.eater.com\/2020\/9\/16\/21436295\/mah-ze-dahr-bakery-opening-menu-d-c-location-umber-ahmad-tom-colicchio\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> expanded<\/a> into Washington, D.C., and Virginia in 2020, but both locations were short-lived. Founder Umber Ahmad, a former investment banker, earned a 2019 James Beard Award <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jamesbeard.org\/blog\/the-2019-james-beard-award-semifinalists\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">semifinalist<\/a> nod for Outstanding Baker. Its <a href=\"https:\/\/ny.eater.com\/maps\/the-best-slices-of-cake-nyc\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">chocolate cakes<\/a>, brioche doughnuts, vanilla choux, cheesecakes, and cinnamon rolls remain available for delivery nationwide. 225 Liberty Street, off West Street<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph n2hx75i _1knl15h1 _1knl15h0 cej01i1\"><strong>Carroll Gardens:<\/strong> After an incomprehensible 120 years of business, Brooklyn\u2019s iconic <strong>Caputo Bakery<\/strong> suddenly <a href=\"https:\/\/ny.eater.com\/restaurant-closings\/410938\/restaurant-closings-nyc-japonica-greenwich-village-caputo-bakery-carroll-gardens\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ceased operations<\/a> on Monday, April 27. A closure notice posted on the door, first spotted by Eater contributor <a href=\"https:\/\/andreastrong.substack.com\/p\/caputos-has-closed\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Andrea Strong<\/a>, reads: \u201cIt is with immense sadness that I am writing to tell you that the flame in our oven has been lit for the last time,\u201d wrote owner James Caputo. The finality of the family-run, five-generation bakery hit locals hard. \u201cNeighbors walked by, stopping, gasping. Some cried,\u201d noted Strong. Among its many local restaurant clients was Brooklyn-born <a href=\"https:\/\/ny.eater.com\/venue\/44580\/court-street-grocers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Court Street Grocers<\/a>, recently named NY\u2019s finest sandwich <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/culture\/the-food-scene\/-the-vegetalian-is-new-yorks-finest-sandwich\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">by the New Yorker<\/a>. \u201cAny success we\u2019ve had has been intertwined with theirs,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DXxDqOMAvhl\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">writes<\/a> Court Street. 329 Court Street, at Sackett Street<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph n2hx75i _1knl15h1 _1knl15h0 cej01i1\"><strong>Carroll Gardens:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.daenewyork.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Dae<\/strong><\/a>, Brooklyn\u2019s minimalist cafe, wine bar, Korean-leaning restaurant, and haute home-goods shop \u2014 with a known distaste for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.curbed.com\/2023\/10\/dae-bans-photos-instagram-tiktok-influencers.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">influencers<\/a> \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.courtstreetjournal.com\/p\/last-call-at-dae\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">closed<\/a> its stainless steel-wrapped spot after three years. Dae itself isn\u2019t done, however, and is \u201cactively searching for a new home,\u201d per the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DW9qruMj5JS\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Instagram statement<\/a>, with details to come. Look for pop-ups and events this summer, plus catering to continue. 385 Smith Street, at Third Street<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph n2hx75i _1knl15h1 _1knl15h0 cej01i1\"><strong>East Village: <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/rossysbakery.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Rossy\u2019s Bakery &amp; Caf\u00e9<\/strong><\/a><strong>,<\/strong> a budget-friendly neighborhood option for baked chicken, barbecue ribs, empanadas, smoothies, and coffee for the past 16 years, closed this week, <a href=\"https:\/\/evgrieve.com\/2026\/04\/a-3rd-street-staple-rossys-bakery-cafe.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reports EV Grieve<\/a>. The standby for Dominican and Spanish comfort foods was no longer sustainable, says owner Roselia \u201cRossy\u201d Caba, who <a href=\"https:\/\/evgrieve.com\/2025\/05\/rossys-bakery-cafe-to-close-after-15.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">started<\/a> the business with her mom (who\u2019s retiring). \u201cWe can\u2019t keep trying to be affordable to the community and still make money anymore,\u201d she told the blog. 242 East Third Street, between avenues B and C<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph n2hx75i _1knl15h1 _1knl15h0 cej01i1\"><strong>Greenwich Village: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.japonicanyc.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Japonica<\/strong><\/a>, the nearly 50-year-old NYC sushi institution that served everyone from Elvis Costello to Sarah Jessica Parker, <a href=\"https:\/\/ny.eater.com\/restaurant-closings\/410938\/restaurant-closings-nyc-japonica-greenwich-village-caputo-bakery-carroll-gardens\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">closed<\/a> on Friday, April 24. Beyond its sushi and maki rolls, the menu included yakitori, tempura, teriyaki, and soba. The restaurant, which moved Manhattan locations over the years, remained popular all the same; a wait for a table, even in 2009, could be \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/forkknifespoon.wordpress.com\/2009\/11\/23\/japonica\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a torment<\/a>,\u201d according to a diner. Japonica eventually returned to its original address in 2014. 90 University Place, at East 12th Street<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph n2hx75i _1knl15h1 _1knl15h0 cej01i1\"><strong>Gowanus: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/estanciapiola\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Estancia Piola<\/strong><\/a>, the Brooklyn offshoot of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.estancia460.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Estancia 460<\/a> (the Tribeca favorite for locals and celebrities alike since 1995), closed after just two years. The Argentinian sibling centered around meaty choripan sandwiches, red wines, and parillada, a mixed grill of steak, blood sausage, chorizo, and chicken. 288 Third Avenue, between President and Carroll streets<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph n2hx75i _1knl15h1 _1knl15h0 cej01i1\"><strong>Lenox Hill: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unregularpizza.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Unregular Pizza<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 the Roman-style pie project founded during the pandemic on the principle of bartering, then quickly went on to open three NYC locations \u2014 didn\u2019t pan out on the Upper East Side. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DXko0mYDfhb\/?igsh=OWNneGp6cWk1ZnIz\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Upper East Site<\/a> flagged the restaurant\u2019s closure after less than two years. Its <a href=\"https:\/\/ny.eater.com\/2021\/2\/24\/22297003\/unregular-pizza-pop-up-harlem-bartering\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">so-called \u201cpizza barterer\u201d<\/a> Gabriele Lamonaca, who traded his burrata-topped pies for everything from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CNzxr2MnVQ5\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">guitar lessons<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CNfmtGlHOkE\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">tins of caviar<\/a> in the early days, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DXhdE4ukdAS\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">hit the New York Stock Exchange floor<\/a> this week to swap pies for \u201chopefully some stock or advice.\u201d Unregular Pizza maintains a pair of downtown outposts: the five-year-old original in Union Square and inside Essex Market, which still features a bartering component. 1132 Lexington Avenue, near East 79th Street<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph n2hx75i _1knl15h1 _1knl15h0 cej01i1\"><strong>Lower East Side: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/anbanewyork.com\/omakase\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Anb\u0101<\/strong><\/a>, a 10-seat omakase counter hidden inside Hotel Chantelle since mid-February, has already closed \u201cdue to unforeseen circumstances,\u201d per an email to Eater from a general manager. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/austin\/restaurants\/best-sushi-in-austin\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sushi|Bar ATX<\/a> alum Ambreley Ouimette, billed as NYC\u2019s sole female kaiseki chef, put her fermentation and dry-aging skills to work across an 18-course menu ($220) full of seabream and wagyu. Offbeat omakase accents <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/newyork\/news\/this-all-female-kaiseki-counter-is-one-of-new-yorks-best-new-omakases-032526\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">included<\/a> homages to her favorite artist, Elvis, in both vinyl music and decor. 92 Ludlow Street, near Delancey Street<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph n2hx75i _1knl15h1 _1knl15h0 cej01i1\"><strong>Lower East Side:<\/strong> An AYCE Chinese restaurant and ice cream counter, <a href=\"https:\/\/hou-yi-hot-pot.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Hou Yi Hot Pot<\/strong><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DWhUqBOEY0r\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">closed<\/a> on Sunday, March 29, after a 14-year run. The casual hangout had a devoted neighborhood following for its $40 bottomless hot pot deal, complete with a choice of broths, dipping sauces, meats, and seafood, plus canned soft drinks from the fridge and scoops in flavors like matcha green tea and salted caramel. 92 Hester Street, at Eldridge Street<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph n2hx75i _1knl15h1 _1knl15h0 cej01i1\"><strong>Upper West Side: <\/strong>After going dark for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DVzUIy6jdbD\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">renovations<\/a> in late March, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pastramiqueen.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Pastrami Queen<\/strong><\/a> won\u2019t reopen its location in this neighborhood. Fresh <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westsiderag.com\/2026\/04\/20\/upper-west-side-pastrami-queen-to-become-a-chinese-deli\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">signage<\/a> up spells out the space\u2019s future life as Deli Chin, with a newfound focus on pastrami egg rolls. The switcheroo comes from the \u201csame owner\u201d of the former UWS Pastrami Queen, per an email to Eater, adding, \u201cwe don\u2019t have too many more details to share at this time.\u201d Other Pastrami Queens remain on the Upper East Side and inside Moynihan Train Hall. 138 West 72nd Street, between Amsterdam and Columbus avenues<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph n2hx75i _1knl15h1 _1knl15h0 cej01i1\"><strong>Upper West Side: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/fillup.coffee\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Fillup Coffee<\/strong><\/a> closed its sole locale on Saturday, April 25, after a five-year run, notes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westsiderag.com\/2026\/04\/29\/openings-blank-street-coffee-fillup-coffee-the-cutting-edge-barber-shop-111-hair-studio-auntie-annes-and-carvel-taco-bell\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">West Side Rag<\/a>, with an employee citing \u201ctoo much competition\u201d as the cause. Speaking of, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blankstreet.com\/en-US\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Blank Street Coffee <\/a>just opened its fourth UWS location in April. 2486 Broadway, between West 92nd and West 93rd streets<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph n2hx75i _1knl15h1 _1knl15h0 cej01i1\"><strong>Upper West Side:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.edgarscafe.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Edgar\u2019s Cafe<\/strong><\/a> poured out its last cup of coffee on Thursday, April 30, ending a nearly 40-year run in NYC. \u201cIt breaks our hearts to say goodbye,\u201d per a message on the door flagged by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westsiderag.com\/2026\/04\/02\/upper-west-side-cafe-set-to-close-after-38-years-it-breaks-our-hearts\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">West Side Rag<\/a>.
