GRANADA HILLS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) — A man was hospitalized after being shot Friday while parking in a Granada Hills neighborhood. His brother, who says was with him in the car when shots rang out, is speaking out about the terrifying moment.<\/p>\n
“It just sucks and I feel so bad because they should’ve never even happened in the first place.”<\/p>\n
Still bleeding, injured and shaken, the victim’s brother says he was sitting right next to him when gunfire started and believes this was no random attack.<\/p>\n
“They were waiting as we parked they were already on the benches sitting down.”<\/p>\n
He said his brother has received threats for weeks. Investigators have not confirmed a motive, but say it could be gang-related, describing the five to ten suspects as young Black men.<\/p>\n
Police say the shooting happened just before 6 p.m. at the Granada Gardens apartment complex. The victim’s brother says after the shooting, his brother was screaming for help and accelerated his car, crashing into a tree nearby.<\/p>\n
The impact was so severe that it left the man with visible injuries to his mouth and what he believes to be a fractured arm. When asked why he didn’t want to go to the hospital, he said: “Because I wanted to stay here to make a statement, I was the one that saw everything, and they shot more than 8 rounds.”<\/p>\n
“He’s my only brother I got and everyone sees that we work hard for our things and we have everything in life and people wanna just take that away from us… I wish I did get shot instead of my brother because he’s literally my only brother and it just hurts me a lot. You know.”<\/p>\n
Now, fear is spreading through the complex.<\/p>\n
“I never imagined it. I went to do laundry and the whole little gang was there, but I never imagined this would happen. I heard the gunshots-like six or seven. They were aimed at the boy,” said resident Norma in Spanish.<\/p>\n
She expressed frustration, saying the apartment complex banned personal security cameras — like Ring doorbells — just two months ago. Now, only the complex has surveillance video, which they say has been turned over to police.<\/p>\n
Police are still searching for the suspects, who they say ran away from the scene right after the shooting. As for the victim, he is expected to survive.<\/p>\n
