{"id":767687,"date":"2026-05-02T07:11:26","date_gmt":"2026-05-02T07:11:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/767687\/"},"modified":"2026-05-02T07:11:26","modified_gmt":"2026-05-02T07:11:26","slug":"orioles-pete-alonso-soaking-in-really-special-trip-back-in-nyc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/767687\/","title":{"rendered":"Orioles&#8217; Pete Alonso soaking in &#8216;really special&#8217; trip back in NYC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From landing late in New York on Thursday night to first pitch in The Bronx on Friday, Pete Alonso had already taken several trips down memory lane on his initial return to his former home of over seven years.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He stumbled over a few words when expressing what it means to him to be back in the city after leaving the Mets for a <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/12\/10\/sports\/pete-alonso-bolts-for-155-million-orioles-contract-in-mets-crusher\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">five-year, $155 million deal<\/a> with the Orioles.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Alonso immediately thought of his first taste of professional baseball with the Brooklyn Cyclones in 2016. The Mets finished off an 11-inning game against the Nationals in their final homestand of the 2025 season and the next day, he and wife Haley went to Mount Sinai Hospital to welcome their first child together, a boy.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of things you think about after being here for so long,\u201d Alonso said before the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/05\/01\/sports\/will-warren-adds-to-his-rotation-case-as-yankees-top-orioles\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Orioles\u2019 7-2 loss to the Yankees<\/a>. \u201cBeing in Manhattan, in the city, just looking back and thinking about that is really special.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Alonso continued to leave his mark on the city, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/05\/01\/sports\/pete-alonso-homers-in-first-at-bat-in-nyc-return-with-orioles\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">hitting a home run off Will Warren<\/a> in his first at-bat Friday. He went 1-for-2 with two walks and scored both of the Orioles\u2019 runs.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Walking around Friday, the five-time All-Star felt he was \u201cjust back in the old neighborhood.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He spent time pondering some of his favorite restaurants in the city, citing his favorite Italian spot, Ci Siamo, as a must-visit. \u201cShoutout chef Hillary,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The 31-year-old didn\u2019t assume anything about the game that preceded his son\u2019s birth, whether it would be his last game at Citi Field.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Baltimore Orioles first baseman Pete Alonso (25) rounds the bases on his solo home run in the second inning. Corey Sipkin for the NY POST<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wasn\u2019t thinking about it,\u201d he said. \u201cI was just more thinking about, \u2018I can\u2019t believe the season is over,\u2019 because there was hopes for more, but obviously we didn\u2019t do the job at the time. I was more shifted to family and how it was time to be dad, be husband. Let the dust settle and enjoy being parents for the first time.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat was where my mind was at initially. I didn\u2019t really start thinking about free agency until the World Series was over.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Since arriving in Baltimore, Alonso hasn\u2019t yet brought his best to the plate.
