NBC lifestyle host Sara Gore<\/a> will be taking time away from her duties on \u201cNew York Live\u201d and \u201cOpen House\u201d to undergo treatment for breast cancer. She shared her diagnosis with an emotional message<\/a> Thursday.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m going to be stepping away for treatment and surgery,\u201d she told \u201cNew York Live\u201d viewers<\/a>. \u201cIf I didn\u2019t say that I was a little bit scared, I\u2019d be lying.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 49-year-old TV personality fought back tears while explaining breast cancer runs in her family and that she expected to someday have to deal with it. She said that will include surgery. Gore told viewers who\u2019ve tuned in to watch her for more than 16 years that she wanted to break the news to her supporters herself \u2014 and said she\u2019ll be back \u201cbetter than ever.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gore, who was raised upstate in Lake George, didn\u2019t say where she would receive treatment. But she appears ready to put up a fight.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am exactly where I need to be, and I\u2019m surrounded by incredible doctors, and people who are taking such good care of me at home, thank you,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

The World Health Organization lists<\/a> age, obesity, alcohol and tobacco use and family history as factors that contribute to breast cancer. According to WHO, roughly 80% of women who develop breast cancer \u201chave no modifiable breast cancer risk factor other than gender (female) and age (over 40 years).\u201d<\/p>\n
