according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.span-ny.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Span Architecture<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2320758 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/harper-house_span-architecture_dezeen_2364_col_4-852x1065.jpg\" alt=\"Room with patterned-glass door inserts and a wooden ping pong table\" width=\"1891\" height=\"2364\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>The renovation of Harper House involved blending historic details with modern interventions<\/p>\n<p>Overhauling the 19th-century townhouse was a seven-year process that involved restoring original interiors by prominent American architect Stanford White.<\/p>\n<p>Its exterior is equally notable: in the summer of 1965, musician Bob Dylan was photographed by Daniel Kramer on the home&#8217;s stoop, which at the time belonged to his manager Albert Grossman.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2320772 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/harper-house_span-architecture_dezeen_2364_col_18-852x1065.jpg\" alt=\"A double-height atrium with a tall window overlooking a garden\" width=\"1891\" height=\"2364\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>The added double-height atrium spaces to bring more light into the rooms<\/p>\n<p>The picture was used as the cover for the artist&#8217;s album Highway 61 Revisited that was released the same year.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Today, it is the last private residence adjacent to New York City&#8217;s only remaining private park, a space historically reserved for the city&#8217;s cultural and political elite,&#8221; said Span Architecture, which collaborated with interior designers Anne-Marie Winter and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/christiane_duncan_interiors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Christiane Duncan<\/a>, and several other specialists on the project.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2320769 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/harper-house_span-architecture_dezeen_2364_col_15-852x1065.jpg\" alt=\"A room with an arched opening and intricate parquet flooring\" width=\"1891\" height=\"2364\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>Details such as intricate parquet flooring were also refurbished<\/p>\n<p>On the exterior, the intricately detailed wrought iron porch was carefully restored, and <a href=\"https:\/\/ballandball.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Ball &amp; Ball<\/a> was enlisted to refurbish the equally ornate gas lamps at the bottom of the stoop.<\/p>\n<p>Inside, the Stanford White-designed salon&#8217;s Cuban mahogany panelling and oak ceilings were revitalised by <a href=\"https:\/\/carltonhouse.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Carlton House Restoration<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2320767 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/harper-house_span-architecture_dezeen_2364_col_13-852x1065.jpg\" alt=\"Doorway surrounded by intricate mouldings with a view to a staircase\" width=\"1891\" height=\"2364\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>A team of experts was enlisted to complete the meticulous restoration work<\/p>\n<p>While preserving other details such as intricate parquet flooring and patterned-glass door inserts, the team integrated several modern interventions.<\/p>\n<p>These include skylights and double-height atriums that introduce more natural light into previously dark rooms.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2320756 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/harper-house_span-architecture_dezeen_2364_col_2-852x1065.jpg\" alt=\"A kitchen with dark teal cabinetry and industrial lights over an island\" width=\"1891\" height=\"2364\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>The kitchen was transformed into a central living hub<\/p>\n<p>The kitchen was transformed into a central living area, while attic spaces were converted into family offices.<\/p>\n<p>Custom elements range from a chandelier by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dwiseman.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">David Wiseman Studio<\/a> that incorporates the Sullens&#8217; in New York townhouse\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Bob Dylan memorabilia is displayed alongside a collection of works by artists including Thomas Struth, Diebenkorn and Neal Casal.<\/p>\n<p>Landscaping by <a href=\"https:\/\/rklastudio.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">RKLA Studio<\/a> comprises lush terraces and gardens designed to create a dialogue with Gramercy Park.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2320778 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/harper-house_span-architecture_dezeen_2364_col_24-852x1065.jpg\" alt=\"A landscaped roof terrace with views of Manhattan\" width=\"1891\" height=\"2364\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>Landscaping on the roof terrace was designed to create a dialogue with Gramercy Park below<\/p>\n<p>Also during the renovation process, the Sullens founded the nonprofit <a href=\"https:\/\/harperhousemusicfoundation.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Harper House Music Foundation<\/a> to support musicians, music communities and the preservation of musical legacies.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Harper House project is more than a historic renovation;
