When the mall opened in 1975, it was groundbreaking as the country\u2019s first vertical shopping center. For decades, its escalator rides and stacked floors became part of the Chicago experience. The familiar escalator bank at the main entrance will be removed and replaced with an expansive atrium designed to bring natural light deep into the building.
